Jacob,dont get the wrong impression here Brian,here can not only play but play really fast,hes very good IMHO no BS [VERY]good.All these guys I heard at the confluence were really good and very far above average, I was very suprised

I think people that play a RIC bass have some sort of talent. That's why I believe everybody when they compliment another forumite's playing.

Actually that was something I forgot to mention about the Mid Atlantic Fest. We definately have some players on this forum. Brian is more of an FG 8 string player. He couldn't put Dave's down at the Fest.

BTW, nice score Dave. Love the silver....

Dave's new silver bass is really sweet, I got to hold it in my hands at Chris's booth today...it's super clean and plays great--the action is reeely nice. That's one helluva find Dave.

I brought home something too, a 4001V63 PMC...the owner (Jeff Shick, a new Forum member) lived nearby and so we did the deal...It's a fantastic bass, and looks new. Thanks for an awesome bass, Jeff.

I never thought I'd own one of these, I'm quite proud at the moment!!

Haha. Anyone playing an 8 string get a recording posted asap okay? I dont care if you can barely play or you can make it talk, sing, moan, or scream. All of the above is welcome in my book.

What I dont get is alot of you guys kick ***. But alot of you all are just in tribute bands or bands that dont do orginals! Get out and play some of your own stuff. Not dising the whole tribute band thing either tho. I mean... sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. And then again alot of people love that music so much they love playing it. To me as much as I love playing some of this stuff... Id rather hear people out in a crowd singing my song or whatever over them singing a someone elses. Cant wait for the momment either haha.

Ted you are absolutely correct JPS was amazing on bass a matter of fact I emailed him the next day telling him so, and yes he is quite the guitar tech too. Great guy! John Simmons is also incredible on bass,Marc your not to bad yourself.I never heard Dave or Chris play.I was very impressed.

Nate, when I speak of talent I'm thinking Geddy ,these guys are not far behind not only did I hear his sound I heard his licks played with simplicity and ease.

Well, thanks Ken....I felt like an amateur compared to others at the 'Fest. Not false modesty.....my style is just different and seeing some of the other players made me see plenty of areas where I could improve. It is humbling to see Dave, Marc, Jeff, John, Chris, Ken, Ken and others playing so easily (at least it appeared to flow easily) when it is often a struggle for me to pull things together. Just a matter of perspective I guess.

Jacob....I'll make some sort of a recording tomorrow (I just plug my preamp right into my computer) but I have never converted anything to a file I can send so I''l have to mess with that. When I get it figured out I'll email it to ya'.

As far as the tribute band....I'm in a band that primarily plays Metallica tunes with some Motorhead, Pantera, White Zombie, etc. tossed in. We have been together since '91....that's a long time (I quit twice for brief periods). We've always wanted to do originals but it takes lots of time. I went through the police academy and rotated awkward shifts for years, the guitar player finished college and had to travel a decent distance everyday for work, the singer had a few kids and worked/works 12 hour days, and well the drummer is a drummer (

) so it's pretty amazing that we even still have a band. We take what we can get and have done pretty well IMO. We have just recently put an actual effort into writting originals so we'll see where that takes us. I think we are all well past thinking that we'll "make it big" and are just doing this because it is fun.

That silver bass is very cool indeed! It's a 4008, innit (as opposed to a 4003S/8)? Kind of hard to tell by the pics...

It looks like the bridge mute area is cut out and the strings are "reversed" compared to the s8......so 4008 it is.

Your recording sounds great and is likely much better than what I'd come up with.

Thanks guys! As you can tell, the bass is slathered in delays (including a vintage Roland Space Echo and a MoogerFooger analog delay), but I think the 8-string-ness of it still comes through.

Here's a shot of me with the bass while we were recording the tune - my friend Greg DeGuglielmo is on drums...

I believe it is an 4008, can't see if the neck's got binding tho...
