Harry.. I'm listening to your song again.. it just makes me smile. I love music like that! It's beautiful.

Dave, beautiful bass! I love the hint of green. Makes it special.

Anyone seen a silver with white plastic? Or did they only come with BT?

OK Jacob, here ya go - I dug this one up, it was recorded at the same time as the other one during a snowstorm at my friend's place which is called Oxbow Studio, hence the title:

blizzard of oxbow riff
Image

It's the 4003S/8, one channel clean through my Fodera 2000 preamp, the distorted channel is through a Budda PhatBass distortion and Electro-Harmonix Small Stone modded by aNaLoG mAn. Thought it'd be good to have an example of something a little more hard-hitting.

Also, I considered starting another thread, I feel kinda like I'm hijacking this one, but the silver 4008/4003S/8 stands on its own, so I'm putting this here...

I liked that alot Harry. Thats pretty awesome. Thats it tho.. This weeked I gotta play on Chips Alembic 8 string. I only played it one other time.

What do chords sound like on these things? WHAT! Bassist and chords? Yeah I know its against some of your religions but I play them more often then I ever thought I would have.

Chords = HUGE on an 8 string.

I approach playing mine the same as I do my 4 string and it sounds like every note is a chord. When playing accents or for some extra fill I'll use chords to thicken things up......with the 8 string it always just sounds like there is more going on.

The only downside to playing my s8 is that it is hard on my plucking fingers and I can't play as fast/clean on it due to the extra effort needed.

Harry....I don't see much of an issue with "hijacking" here......the thread just progressed naturally. Dave knows we are all jealous of his silver 400??8. Image

I'll help with the hijacking so I am as guilty as you. My s8 is not like yours.....it was originally JetGlo with white plastic and chrome hardware. I just swapped the pickguard for a black one and painted my TRC. I was going to powdercoat my hardware black but I grew to like it with chrome.

I want your bas, Brian. I'll take that bass over your LK. Image

If I look for a 4003s8 I'd try and get a jetglo.. I love any all black bass. Still.. very sweet bass. Chords must sound huge.. Chords on a 4 string are sweet.. but with an 8? Wow! Who need a guitar player with that? hehe.

Brian - that thing looks awesome! I think it looks fabulous with the chrome. I don't remember seeing that picture of it. I wanna hear it now!

Not only does mine have black trim, but a black cat to go with it!

Yes, let me see if I can dig up a song I did with it last year that has the full studio production.

I had a busy day with work, raking leaves and splitting firewood so I didn't get a chance to record anything today but I'll get to it by Tuesday.....I promise. I have the Bartolini p/u's so it'll sound a little different also. I'll play something with my LK then the same thing with the s8 to highlight the difference.

Seeing yours almost makes me second guess my choice to stay with chrome. Almost.

Looks like my cat Shadow....RIP. Image

Steve....I always meant to ask....is that a factory paint scheme or did you have it done? I always liked those Hamer 8/12's.

Brian - I didn't mean to bum you out with the cat picture! I love cats - he's actually not mine, his name's Jasper, he used to live next door to Oxbow Studio.

And I'm telling you - your Jetglo looks badass as is!

Oh, and Nate, I feel bad because we're generating all this GAS/RAS for you, but you are the possessor of one of the classic bass guitars around - the 4001 - I say stick with that one and invest your money in an amp or a Bass POD or something - more basses will come later - I actually only had $400 Fender Japan basses for like 10-15 years, it's only recently that I can afford to indulge in fancy instruments...

HEY - I just realized - I cracked 100 posts - I'm a senior member!!!

Brian, that is not a factory finish, I had it done once I saw pictures of me playing the bass onstage and couldn't SEE IT! Image So I had to make it stand out a little more!
