A Great Day at the Philly Show!

Post by desertgoldenboy »

So, yesterday I had a great day at the Philly Guitar show (saw John Simmons there...just missed Dave Pascoe).

I took my '68 Gibby SG Standard to see who might be interested in buying it. I didn't get 30 feet inside the hall when a dealer asked to see what was in my case. I showed him and...yadda yadda yadda...I walked away with a wad of cash, which I promptly took over to the POTR booth. Well, as usual, Chris Clayton had some real beauties on display, but one particular new 360/12 made my jaw drop - Jetglo with gold guards & TRC!

Now, I've had a Mapleglo 360/12 on order with Chris for awhile and I've been getting kind of itchy for it's arrival. But let me tell you, ladies and gentlemen, this black & gold combination just blew me away! Long story short (too late, huh?), it's now mine!

Here it is:

Part 2 of this story: I still had cash, so a 650D also caught my eye, since now I needed a new sixer with humbuckers. That is now mine, too!

And on the way home, I stopped by my jeweler friend's shop and sprung for the diamond necklace that my wife has been hinting for. She was very happy when I got home...she even liked the guitars! Everybody's happy!

I am absolutely beaming that I have 2 new gorgeous Ricks to play with! Just thought I'd share the joy with the forum!

Thanks, Nate.
No pics of the necklace yet...wifey won't take it off and she forbids me to take her picture!
Come to think of it, she also forbade (sp?) me to buy any guitars yesterday.
Ha ha ha ha ha!

She's cool with it all. Hopefully, I can pull the same kind of deal at next summer's Philly Show. Matching earrings, maybe?

Lol! Good luck with that! Are you able to afford another diamond necklace? Image

Edit: I should read the earrings comments a bit.. heh. Get her a matching ring.

Ken, Great story...thanks for relaying it 'as it happened'. I think you have bought very wisely and Chris at POTR is so easy to deal with. Well done.

The necklace was a nice touch, however you make have just shot yourself in the foot...what are you going to do next time you get a dose of RAS???

Yes, i totally agree Darren! If this ever gets out, all our wives will want the mandatory diamond necklace. And at the present rate, i'd only owe my wife 1. You, Darren, on the otherhand had better buy the whole jewellers Shop!

Ken, sorry I missed you at the show. Is the black 360 the KH model? If your not sure, ask Chris about it.

Great stuff Ken...

Dave, I saw the KH model and it had white guards...really nice, though. But it was the gold guards that really got my juices flowing.

Darren, she was going to get the necklace anyway (she went to the jeweler last week to pick it out)...it just came a bit sooner than she expected. I figured that I just got some nice things, so why shouldn't she? She's not really a jewelery horder (she'd be happy to have new power tools, which is okay with me) so I'm not too worried about 'the next time'.

Luckily I don't have to go through the 'appeasement' process - except with myself, but I'm not into diamonds and such. I'm happy with a 'slab' of cold beer!! Image

Looks like you managed the 'situation' beautifully, Kenn. The timing was spot on!

I wish I knew of decent guitar show in the LA / Orange county CA area. The only one that I've gone to that was a great one, was the SoCal Rick confluence. There were some really cool guitar shows in NY.

Joey, there's one usually in January at the OC Fairgrounds. I wouldn't call it great, but it's a guitar show none the less.

I've been to the OC Fairgrounds guitar show a couple of times. It's usually around the same time as the NAMM show, maybe once or twice more in the year. I paid 10 bucks to get in each time and saw less basses than I could count on one hand. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes.
