Pop Up Ads
Pop Up Ads
I have had a question about Pop Ups Ads on the Rickenbacker Registration Page. I do not experience these with my browser so I expect it is browser related. Should anyone notice a pattern in which a particular page produces pop ups while others do not, please do let me know and I will do everything in my power to get rid of them. To all those advertising, software and programming experts out there, feel free to give us the benefit of your experience.

Mark,
Although I am no IT professional, it sounds to me that the problem is associated with certain "pigggybacking" programs that are surreptitiously put into one's computer by other programs.
Here's a link to a C/NET article entitled "Your PC's Enemy Within: In The Trenches of Tecno-Rebellion":

The issue is covered well (in my opinion), and there are links to downloads (most free) of the protective software. This is one part of a three-part series:

which gives a very in-depth view of the issues involved.
Personally, I have started using Ad-Aware, even though I didn't have any apparent problems, just to be on the safe side.

To the best of my knowledge there are no links on the Rickenbacker Registration Page at the present time that lead to pops ups.
Should you still be getting them please look very closely at your browser and plugins that automatically get installed when downloading certain "free" software.
Having said that, I am always interested in eliminating this sort of intrusion should you be able to locate a source in the code on the Rickenbacker Registration Page or Rickenbacker Forum.
