"Only effective". I don't know what that means, except to say that until the last six seconds, your bid is kept secret, and at six seconds from closing the bid is placed. It actually takes almost six seconds to go through eBay's system, so the bid is actually tallied by eBay in the last possible second.

It does no good whatsoever if there are any bids higher than yours. So you have to judge your auctions carefully, and not overbid by excessive amounts that you would not pay. In the last second, the highest bidder wins. No other bidders know that your proxy bid was placed by E-Snipe.

The difference is this: The only way you can score with a last-second high bid without using E-Snipe, is if you are very lucky in your timing. Why sweat it?

It's a cutthroat world out there, Steve...

That's "Grandpa" to you.

And watch out for those Mill Valley housewives driving SUVs and talking on their cell phones at the same time...

Oh, that's right, I forgot--you're a senior member now.

"Bid very late and very heavy if you really want something..."

I had a friend who took this very approach when 'operating' at singles bars, and guess what? He was a winner every time...
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...
