I carry on my short-scale '59 Duo-Sonic and my 325s. They fit perfectly in the overhead bins.

De-tune the strings as minus 70c (or whatever it is) creates hell with wood under tension.

Again, I really have to take issue with this advice, noting that we have the experience of literally THOUSANDS of air shipments of guitars per year. Cold only decreases tension anyway due to wood that shrinks more than steel as it dehumidifies but the tension is what keeps everything, especially the wood cells, under compression.

If there ever was a time to detune, it would be a flight ending in Arabia or Phoenix in summer.

For the record guys,
The 64 4001S I sold recently has finally got to NY all the way from Perth. It left & arrived tuned after 12days travelling. The case got damaged & the trussrod cover was broken, but thankfully, on the whole it survived. It was marked "handle with care" which I agree, is like a red rag to a bull. With the volume of freight handled by major airports in the USA you have to expect that your gear will be thrown on & off the loading ramps as a matter of course so you have to pack accordingly. Then put a label on the outside that say "Do you worst"

You have to try reeeeealy hard.

I'm back now by the way and any tricky shipping issues were avoided by no one in new york having a jetglo 360-12 to sell me. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions though - I'm sure there will be a time when I put them into use.

Looks like Mike Smith might be getting some business next month....

I've got a Jetglo 360/12 for sale here in the UK... it's a lefty of course.
