Amp reccomendations

Post by nattiep »

Ok.. when I get back to the states I'm gonna have my 4001.. and that's about it. So I'm thinking about canceling my custom bass project and gettting my $1000 back. I'm hoping to find a decent head and a cabnet.. or should I get one of those bass pods and forget the head? I dunno.. I had a Peavy Mark 8 in Buffalo.. I liked it.. it was decent. Had a built in compressor. But I want something that I can gig with.

Keep in mind I only have $1000.. no more, no less.

Also.. I'm a noob when it comes to how these things work.

$1000? You'll be hard-pressed to find a head AND a cabinet for that little . . . at least, not really good ones. Unless you get lucky and find some deals online, or you can convince some unway Guitar Center employees to give you a discount, I say go for a combo. Either than or buy a Sansamp or something.

I've got a Genz Benz 120W combo, and it's perfect for me, as I don't play live . . . I just practice and record for random people at school who need a bassline put down. I'm trying to start a band, and it should be more than adequate for any place I would be playing. It's also got an XLR out, so I can plug into a board or a PA, as well as having the speaker going.

maybe you could get a good medium quality used combo amp in your price range ...

I got a Fender BXR300 in like new condition off of Ebay, only because it was local and he would not ship, for $90. Still has the $799 price tag on it, and will shake the room, no doubts.
It's my home practice amp / backup for small gigs.

I got a fender 200watt bassman. IT seems to be okay. As long as the drums arent amped up or anything. But Iv never had a gig. Iv only done little shows for friends. Once more from that punk band.

An Ampeg PB250(250 watts) and Ampeg 4x10 cab would sound awsome and could be had for less than $1000.00 new. It just depends how much power you want. I paid $995.00 for my Ampeg PB800 head new(800 watts).

You might also try Avatar; Dave's a great guy who makes decent cabinets, he's also an Ashdown and Hartke dealer.

Nate...I haven't heard any of the new Ampegs in the line you posted the link too but I'll bet, like all Ampegs, it's great. I love my PB's. TONS of power, tone and simple. They remind me a bit of the GKs I used to have.

I'm a big fan of their stuff. Reasonably priced.

I got the 400w head & a 1x15 cab for under a grand.

Also another +1 for the Avatar cabs.

I've had a good experience with a 1x15 tubeworks (genz benz) combo that I got for 1000$ canadian after tax.

Just upgraded to the traynor (yorkville) yba200 tube head (200W) and matching cab for 1300$ canadian and I love it to death.

Today I ordered an Avatar B212 Neo. Dave sounds like a really cool guy. Ths cab should arrive in time before my next gig.

Nate, Avatar has a special deal if you buy a cab and head together, check it out.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)
