Hey Jacob -- i was wondering if, going by your name you were into Black Sabbath? Geezer's the man but try playing the end of Iron Man fingerstyle as opposed to pick. Man, I'm full of wine

Yeah, I do hear a lot of boomy bass players with no high-end, but I suspect that could be the sound guy's preference, since he really gets the final say. Lots of times I pray my bass sound isn't going to be as boomy and ****** as the opening act's-- even though they are usually playing great parts with a boutique bass and top-end gear. Sometimes the bass ends up way too loud, too-- and the audience may blame the bassist for that unfairly. Some sound guys have no idea how to mix the bass guitar and the kick drum together! Ya gotta decide which is going to be Eq'd lower, and not have them both crowding the same frequency range..that's where a lot of mud and boom originates, IMO.

I really hate it when the bass locks in tightly with the kick drum, but the kick drum is EQ'd a lot higher. You don't hear ANY of the bass. Just the stupid kick drum. This happens so much in modern music, it's really sad. That might also be because a lot of modern bassists use really uncharacteristic bass sounds that don't cut through at all, but it really pisses me off when all I can hear is a kick drum, and I know that it's completely covering up the bass.

Okay great news guys!
1 45 mins into the audition they kind of looked at each other and said... If you want in... you got it. Image
2 Chip is gonna look for me a bass instead of checking out the web like crazy. So I should have it in 2-4 weeks he says!
So im happy as can be right now!

I hate that boomy thing to. Sometimes it fits. Wonder what this metal band would think of a ric tho... I need to go get something for distortion too. Oh well. Ill get it all soon enough.

You'll love it. You love the ones you've played.. will it replace your Fender? Is your aerodyne your main bass? Or your Deans? Cuz I think your new Ricky will replace your main bass.. lol.

Congrats on your 300th+ post too.. hehe.

I loved my Edge 5.. but it was too boomy for me. Oh well. I get another 5'er some day. No high end.. was all bass.. it bothered me. I was never able to tell the difference til I had my 4001 right next to it and compared.

Kewl. Jamming.. I prolly won't be able to do that til May.. if I'm lucky.. lol.

My Edge 4 isnt boomy. I mean it can be... but its not. I put Lights on it... and I keep the p/us a little more on the bridge side. Keep the bass and treble around the same level. It gives a nice sound. I like it actually. I do probly over half of my changes in sound on just my pickups.

I didn't know how to do that.. it was like almost two years ago. I had everything at full all the time. It worked for the Pink Floyd and McCartney stuff I played, but it seemed wrong for the Rush stuff.
