Naming your Rickenbacker.

Post by nattiep »

I've been thinking about naming my '76 JG 4001. I want to name her because it my first Rickenbacker (and decent bass) and I'm NEVER going to sell her. I've been thinking something along the lines of 'Natalie'. Mostly because I kinda like the name, and I can call it 'Nat'.. my family calls me 'Nat'. It's be nice to somewhat have the same name. Image

I know of a couple people on the forum have named their guitars.. I've been wondering.. why? Is it the connection? The love? I want to name mine because I'm never going to part with her. And she's my only bass. But that's about it.

(I feel odd calling my Rick a 'her' and a 'she'... But it's better than going to play with 'Chris' or something.. lol.)

Me with my 4001.

Yeah, it's a ****** picture.

If I don't feel comfortable calling it 'Natalie' It'll go back to being 'The Rick'.

Anyone have any other feminine names?

That 4001 looks great Nate - I did the same with my '99 4003, black pickguard and black TRC. Needs to be seen in person to be appreciated IMO.

I've got names for a few of mine, but not very traditional names - I call my Epiphone 335 "Big Red", because, well, it's big and red. I call my PRS Soapbar "Doc", because, as everyone knows, PRS are rich doctor guitars. Image

When referring to my 330, I kinda just call it Rick, and i'm happy enough with that.

Natalie hasn't been sitting with me right. seems It's too formal. A normal nick name might work.. but something like blackie seems kinda gay for it.. lol. I think 'The Rick' just might have to be it!

I like your names, John. 'Doc'.. that's funny.

I've named cars before, but now that I think about it, the only thing I've ever called my 4003 is.....MINE.

I call my Fireglo '76 4001 Hairball. That's what I literally found in the treble pickup cavity when I bought it used. I don't know how it got there. Is it possible that a cat coughed it up in there? It was large, dark grey and a little bit sticky and greasy. Really. No lie.

Lol! I took off my jack plate yesterday.. my mono jack came undone. I took the thing off and pulled out a giant dust bunny. I could call it dust bunny.. it's always covered in stuff.. I think it's because it's black. Anoyone know of a decent guitar cleaner?!

Bob, my 4001 said 4001W in the cavity.. I'm not calling it that!

Hahah Jason.

Nate, I just flashed on what your picture (above) reminds me of.

It looks like a scene in a wax museum!

Lol.. is it because my face looks kinda chubby? That was at my old house too.. it's pretty cruddy looking.

I'll get a more normal pose a little later.. hahaha... but with my hair down. Image I put that in the 'Playing your Rick' thread in the bass forum.. I wasn't really playing.. I'll get one of me actually playing something.. lol.

So no one has any names? I know some people have nick names for their Rickenbackers.

Mine were given the unoriginal names of Rebecca and Rachel. I might have to review this because I'm planning on getting more Rickenbackers and there aren't all that many girls names beginning with "R".

But to be honest, they usually just get called V64 and 381.

I've always just called my 4000 "my baby". It doesn't really fit now, though.
