Orange Sparkle Bass - Is It A Rickenbacker?

O.K. Here we go again... except this time I need a real tight, focused, EXPERT opinion (please? markthemd?) on this item:

The seller says that he's gotten some flak from "some Rickenbacker Forum" about the finish, and the tuners and the pickguard and what not. (It would seem that us "Forum types" are real bulldogs!) I am supposing that this means that the bass has been sniffed at in the past, but I need to know the liklihood of it just being an oversprayed Rick. I'm not Mr. Moneybags, and if it's REAL, I'll be a sanding/refitting fool when I get it! The serial # is supposedly G3 7096. Help me out! Thanx... peace!

The neck heel looks "too squared" too me. Is that a horseshoe pickup without the shoes? Can't quite tell from the pics.

So just to be absolutely clear rhinobass... the "Copper-Sparkle-Glo" bass is a fake, right? It's not just an oversprayed V63? Well, o.k. then!

Alvaro: Rhinobass is referring to Ebay item 923060906 'Vintage Rickenbacker Bass' and saying that RIC will be taking steps to close the auction therefor. The 'copper-sparkle-glo' is a different story and so far remains an unsolved mistery. Anyone? Mark? Peter?

While trying to figure out what this instrument might be, I sent a link over to Rickenbacker for some more insight. In the meantime, someone bought the "Copper-Sparkle-Glo" with a "Buy it now" option for $750. Shortly thereafter, I received this email from Rickenbacker:

Hello Al,

Judging by the sellers description he's not sure what he has that should tell you right there. Some people are not sure when it comes to discerning the 4001 from the 4003. But in this case the nut is definitely aftermarket, you want to be able to clearly read the nameplate over the net, anytime you see one that looks purposelefully blurred or left out that's a sign, I try to monitor eBay as much as I can to help to deter any fakes but sometimes some slip through. I would personally try to get a Ric that's as original as possible.

An S-Model, a refinish, a real Rick, you ask? Well, I believe this one's legit, but I wish the seller would not use the word 'Seventies' in connection with this particular Rick bass. I also wish he would remove that dreadful-looking finger rest...

I think it is a 4001v63 seriously modified ... new paint, new pickups, new tuners, new fret board,

The square heel usually means it is a 4001v63 model ....
