Chimay, the name sounds familiar. It's probably one of the Begium brands I've seen at Trader Joe's. I'll give it a try.

Joey, be sure to let that belgian ale breathe a bit first. Serve it in a proper beer glass. If you try it out of the bottle (some people do) it will probably be bitter and unpleasant. It needs air to come into it's full flavor. I treated myself to an rather excellent belgian ale the night the White Sox won the series.

Each to his own, eh Nate? You're into 'purty' Pink Floyd backing singers and I'm into grog (not necessarily to the exclusion of the other, I must say)!! Image

Howard, you are my idol! YES, shiraz are simply the best! You cannot go wrong with any of them. Penfolds is great but a better priced one that lasts, virtually, for weeks and gets better is Possums. It changed my whole thinking about red wines, especially Australian.

Belgium beers are the best I've ever had, namely Leffe(blond). We just got it here in the US. Had it in Amsterdam in '03 and it finally got distributed!

Ted, I expect you to have bottles of Leffe waiting for the rest of us Friday night!Image

In that case I know what to bring you if we catch up when I'm over there next year, Mike! Here's one of my absolute favourites from the Clare Valley:

ImageImage Mad Dog 20/20. It's a whole different experience!!!

Actually, I drink Labatt's Ice beer and/or Jack Daniel's. I've had Gallo Burgundy wine before. That was pretty good, but I just don't have a taste for wine right now.

Some of the Belgian beers are very big in the malt and hop departments, Joey, so if you like a 'thin' tasting European style (a la Heineken, Peroni, Stella, Nastro Azzoro, etc.), choose carefully.

And if you do get Chimay, be careful - it's marginally below the alcohol content of wine - around eleven percent - so no 'boat races' or skulling competitions, eh? Image
