Man, this is really funny.

I was really drunk last night and thought I'd start a random thread about wine since that was what I was drinking. i didn't realise that when I logged in this morning that there would be 4 pages of entries.

I'm a red wine fan. I've recently discovered Spanish wine(Tempranillo grapes...yum!) They've been a crowd pleaser with everyone I've shown them to as well. Its also hard to go wrong with a Shiraz/Syrah or a Chianti.

Beer? I like LaBatt's Blue(Canada), Leffe Blonde(and Trippel too...Belgium), Smithwick's(Ireland), Hacker-Pschorr Weiss(Germany), Tecate & Pacifico(Mexico), Fat Tire Ale(Colorado), Cooper's Red(Howard's country!) and good ol' Miller Lite among others.

Jeff, Fat Tire is excellent beer! Too bad it is only available in selected areas west of the Mississippi.

I just heard this morning that Fat Tire will be available in Chicago as of the first of next year.

Coincidentally the guy that started the New Belgium Brewing co.(Brewers of Fat Tire Ale) is named Jeff, discovered Belgian beer, and got the idea for opening his brewery while touring the country on his mtn. bike.

I discovered Belgian beer while touring the country on my mtn bike. Could he be my alter ego?

Its a neat company. They're into using alternative energy sources and being environmentally responsible. They also give a new Fat Tire bike to each of their employees after 1 year of service.

Ah, one of my favorite topics. Our taste in wine depends in part on what we are eating, but we like shiraz/cab/whatever it is that Trader Joe's Two Buck Chuck is.

Beer, now there's a drink. English real ale, served draft, is preferred. Otherwise, what I can get locally: London Pride, Old Speckled Hen, Bishop's Finger, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, etc. Belgian wheat beer is good, too.

This is by far the best non-Rick thread during my time here! Given that it's one of my favourite pastimes, I'm making a note of everything suggested here - there's a bottle shop not far from me that specializes in imported beers. Pity it's 6.00am - I'd be down there in a flash if it was after 9.00!!

Count me in, Francesco! In 2002 I stayed in a villa just outside Lucca and we drank some magnificent reds - mostly from the Chianti region, but some Tuscan varieties that were really excellent.

I'm glad you like Coopers Red, Jeff. A lot of Aussies detest the stuff because they reckon it's the only beer you can eat - sediment and stuff. It should be drunk out of a glass, but if you prefer to drink it out of the bottle, stand it upside down for 5 minutes before opening. Lovely!!

Phlemmy: Another cider drinker! I'm a big fan of the Woodchuck Amber. One of the fun parts of drinking cider is to ask for it in a English pub. Last time I was there, the common brand was called Scrumpy Jack. It does make one feel slightly foolish. The official cider of the Britrail network was called Strong Bow. I also found an odd concoction that blended cider with beer called The Dog's ********. The only place serving it was The Hobgoblin Pub (purveyors of Witchwood Brewing products) in Salisbury's old town section. It was rather scary looking, kinda cloudy and mysterious. That didn't stop me from consuming two pints though. Must admit I felt strange afterward. It may have been mildly hallucinogenic. I described the stuff to a chap on a train the next day, and he said such mixtures had been banned by royal decree in the Middle Ages. It was said to drive men mad!

LOL That would be at my place!...where Italian food and chianti or some other Italian wine are often on the dinner table.

Pinot Noir.....and Happy Hour starts at around 6 pm at my house. I like many varieties of Red but Pinot Noir is definitely my fave.
