Rick-o-sound jacks not working

Post by jwr2 »

Every 4001/3 stereo bass that I bought off of e-bay had a bum rick-o-sound jack ...

So every time I get a messed up rick-o-sound I wire it for 2 mono outputs ...

In 1990 I did away with the stereo output on my 1976 4001 because it was already defective when I bought the bass. I fail to see the point of having a 4001/4003 with two mono outputs, though. On my 4080 I've removed the MONO output and kept the stereo one, which however can be switched to mono via a small two-position toggle switch I've substituted for the fifth knob.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I've been playing Ric basses since 1973 ... 100% mono ... I have never used the stereo ... I have a vintage well made bass and a good amp and great effects ... there is no way I am going to plug a cheap little stereo plug into this setup ...

Why 2 mono outputs??? this is great for the studio .... you can run one direct and one through an amp ... or live you can run into 2 different amps ... or on a dark stage it makes it easier to find the hole ... or in case one jack fails you have another ... Also if both are mono you don't have to worry about accidently pluging into the stereo juck with a mono cable and sounding weird on stage ...

Billy Sheenan uses a bass with 2 mono outputs .. I am considering wiring some of my fenders this way ....

Anyway my 2 favorite Rics .. my '68 and my 4003s5 are mono from the factory ....
