The Jason Journal-Register would like to print a retraction and correction that appeared in yesterday's forum. Firstly, it was Jeff Thomas that mentioned Fat Tire in IL. This was erroneously attributed to a different source. Secondly, St. Louis is WEST of the Mississippi - I, however, am not west of the Big Muddy. I am on the right-hand side of the river - also known as "east".

There are quite a few of you Springfield based Forum members. I'm impressed. I wouldn't be surprised if Springfield had more members than Chicago.

Anybody ever see or try Hamms beer? I've never seen Hamms beer, but a buddy at work collects Hamms memorablia. There is all sorts of vintage merchandise with the Hamms beer bear and other characters in antique stores and on ebay.

My father-in-law drinks Hamms and Schaefer's (sp). Couldn't stomach the Hamms but the Schaefer's (sp) wasn't too bad. But when I'm really drunk I reach for a Stag.

Schaefer was a popular beer several years ago in NY. I never see it here in SoCal.

I meant to add that you can still get Schaefer's here locally and it isn't too bad (it is as food as Milwaukee's Best actually)

How could a town which has as it's signature dish something called a "horseshoe" fail to have a Ric connection? No Ric dealer, though. I've met Dean, but haven't yet met Jason. Ironically, the only other Forum member I've met is Tony Carey in Devon, which is a fur piece east of here.

My Dad told me a story about Griesidick Brothers beer, which used to be brewed here. It seems that it was so bad that one of his friends had it chemically analyzed; the results came back, "We're sorry to inform you that your horse has diabetes."

Can you get Crown Lager in the states? It comes in a specially shaped bottle so it doesn't glug as you pour it (down your neck). It's the top shelf beer in Australia and comes from the Fosters group. Goes well with Tim Tams...

Labatts Blue is to Canadian beer as Fosters is to Australian beer (do you know where I'm going here Howard?). My favourite mainstream Canadian beer is Keith's but I'm finding that a number of pubs in my area are carrying a wonderful Belgian beer called Leffe's. When I'm visiting family in Vermont, Magic Hat is in the glass. As far as wines go, I prefer a robust burgandyglo.

Gerry....true story from a friend, often recounted at a summer Sunday afternoon cricket jaunt..

Said friend of ours was down under and went into a bar in Sydney. He asks the barman for a pint of Fosters..

The barman looks at him and says, "We don't serve that beer here mate, we send that Pom **** over there for you to drink"

"If you want a drink, your going to have to have a real beer..."

Belgian beers are the best off course

Imagine living in a country like Belgium

Worth trying (if you can find them) :
Kwak, Duvel, Chimay, Westmalle (tripel), Leffe etc..
In contrary to that, wine doesn't have to be French to be good. Although Bourgogne reds are delicious

Andy, very funny. Aussie's are very parochial that way. For years you couldn't buy Fosters or XXXX (Four X, yes, it's a beer) here nor Swan or Emu over there. Fosters is a Victorian beer so naturally they wouldn't serve it in a NSW pub.
Now I know you're wondering why Queenslanders have a beer called XXXX ? It's because they can't spell beer....
