Very long scale fretless question?

Post by bob_atherton »

I know this is the RIC forum, but you guys are like family and I don’t hang out on any other bass forums.

So….. I am thinking of getting a Steinberger CR4M electric double bass. Does anyone here have any first hand experience of these beasts? My band is a bit funk, world, jazz.

Thanks

I only played with one very briefly at Bass Central, you might want to give them a call and see what their opinions are on it.

No personal experience, but pretty much anything Ned Steinberger touches is gold, so I think it's a safe bet if not a brilliant one. Also, Tony Levin uses one extensively, so that's a good endorsement right there.

...or at least silver! Lego-inspired Gibson 20/20 bass, anyone? Image

Ilan, that is really ugly!

The reason (I think) I will like the Steinberger is that I have taken to my new fretless like a duck to water. It's not my first fretless, I have owned them for over 15 years, but the Ric is the first one that I am better at playing than my fretted basses.

I understand that the Steiberger is very much an electric bass players double bass. Low action, quite a fretless bass kind of feel and even tone, if you want it. I am also a huge fan of Tony Levin...
