You guys have gotten to me
So, Saturday morning rolls around and one of my jobs is to rake the lawn and burn the leaves. What's the first thing that streaks through my little brain when I grab the rake? "I am the administrator of my lawn much as Peter is the admin of this wonderful forum." Then,"I wonder if this neck is strong enought to handle an extra tine?" (Thank you Jeff Rath). The next thought is I wonder exactly what type of rake this is? I mean, were there different models, different colors, different styles? (Looking at you Ted S. and Kenneth S.) So, once I'm holding the fretless rake (Jeffrey Scott) I start gathering the leaves. As I'm raking, I'm thinking, "I bet I rake better than anyone on the block." (looking at you Nate and Jacob) I start to get a little tired but then I think "DO IT!" (Jared N.)Once the leaves are gathered I set match to the pile and beautiful fireglo (Jim Glen) leaps up. Watching the leaves burn, I'm amused to think of Ric finishes (Paul W.) - seeing the fireglo turn the mapleglo to a dark jetglo under an azure sky standing next to my burgundy truck. Then I wish Dane Paul was next to me so he could tell me what herb I could throw on the burning pyre to the leaf god. But, at the end of the day it is Aitch that wins out as I head inside and grab a beer.
So, do you all think you guys have too much influence over me?

I'm flattered, Jason, although I'm not sure whether I should be happy about the fact that I'm in there for the booze and not the Ricks!
So, did you have that beer while you were watching the fire die down? Standing around fires and drinking beer is an ancient (and most enjoyable) Aussie custom!!
BTW, you'd be in serious trouble here if you burnt the leaves - the EPA fuzz would be on to you in a flash.... it's an absolute no no!!

I'm sorry all around if anyone is offended. I do admire each of your contributions here on the forum.
Aitch - I was drinking beer and watching the fire. It is a ancient Central Illinois tradition as well. I grew up on a farm, away from really big towns of 3600 or so. I rather be standing around a fire under a clear night sky than almost anything else.

According to Carl Sagan, smoking 'herb' was probably discovered by ancient hunter/gatherers (such as the Pygmies of equatorial Africa, whose knowledge of cultivation extends to one plant only). One can easily imagine, over the course of a million years or so, that routine gathering of brush each night to build a fire might have led to the observation that the addition of a particular plant to the conflagration meant more of a 'party' atmosphere on the downwind side. To this day, 'ganja' is used by Pygmy hunters to put themselves in a state of immobile consciousness in order to wait for passing game...
That reminds me...I gotta 'rake' out my bong...
