I just saw Paul on the Ellen Degeneres show.

It looked like they set up with the same equipment as they do for the arenas. Why do they need all that gear for a TV studio? Maybe 1/2 of it was just for show.

If they indeed are running the same gear on TV as onstage in an arena, I have to believe that they're used to a certain sound, so they're using the live sound from the amps for an in-ear monitor mix. Did they use IEMs? Plus, if they were, in fact, live in a small studio, it'd be no different than your normal club band -- they'd need something for the audience to hear them, even if most of the sound was coming from the house monitor feeding sound to the audience. I know in a recent interview that Paul said he likes to feel the bass behind him, but I doubt that was happening in a small studio setting. But I'm not a soundman -- just my theory.

I couldn't tell if they were using in ear monitors. They did "Get Back" when I saw them. The sound was perfect. I'd like to visit a TV studio and see exactly what goes on there regarding sound and musicians.

I would think that just to save time, the studio would take a feed from a mix done by one of McCartney's own crew for the band onstage. It would be possible to run a high quality monitor mix for the band and pull a separate feed off that, allowing the TV booth to adjust as needed. Sound right off the board need not be sterile. Peter Gabriels's "official" bootlegs are recorded right off the sound board and sound very good. I love them because it includes all the between songs chat and mistakes that are edited out in the cleaned up versions of live CDs offered for sale.

What runs thru all the Vox amps behind Paul? I know he runs his bass thru the Mesa boogie amps.

Geetars, I imagine. Did he play his Casino at all? Also, in the Guitar Player interview with McCartney, both Paul and Brian Ray list Ac30s among their amps.
