"Geddy" project help.

Actually.. it's a 'Poweray'... lol. I have no idea. Maybe some New Zealand company.. but I dunno. It's all tubes. It sound AMAZING! I play my bass in mono, but I can almost get Ged's "A Farewell to Kings" sound out of it. I usually have it cranked, and it gets a little distorted, but it works.

Nice.. gotta love those tiny old valve combos..
Not at all practical for live work, but for recording, they're beautiful.. There were a few NZ companies that made cool little amps (like yours) that were modeled after the Brit amps and they do sound spectacular!

I'd actually like to take it back with me, but, it's not mine and the plug is all goofy.. I'd have to get some sort of adapter for it or something.

Too bad you weren't thinking of this project a few months ago. I would have given you a set of Schaller M4S tuners I had.

Pfft.. oh well. What're the usual cost of those things? Plus I had no idea what was on Geddy's bass until a few weeks ago.

I bought them in the early '80s so I don't recall what they cost me.

Allparts has the tuners for $125 and the bridge for $75. And it'll cost me $50 for a new pickguard and $25 for a new TRC.. not sure about what the bridge plate will cost or what it'll be to install. *sigh*.

Hey.. this is the only bass I'll 'damage'.. my 4003 will be left pretty much stock. Maybe I'll put the hipshot bridge and normal M4 tuners on it.. but that's it.

A Geddy Lee 4001 tribute bass...that's cool.

I know you have to route the body to install the original BadAss bridge on a Rick, but I was wondering if routing wasn't necessary for the BadAss II since it has a lower profile.
I had a 4003 that had a BadAss bridge installed by Mike Lull for the previous owner. It had quite a deep route for the bridge. The cavity was nice and tight, you couldn't fit a piece of paper between the bridge and the route. Lull also made a surround that had the footprint of the front end of the original tailpiece. It was held on very well with double sided tape so there was no reason to make holes for screws.
I changed out those Barts with the original p/u's before I sold it. It sounded better with the RIC pickups. When A/Bing it with my 4001 basses, I really could not hear that much of a difference in sustain from the BadAss bridge.

It was a nice bass, but when I looked at it, it looked like a fake with that mod. I wanted to make a 5er out of it, but with that mod it would have taken alot of work.

Harry, handle him with kid gloves, he's just finding his way...stick it out and in the end he'll be driven to be in the limelight, in the mood to roll the bones and rake in the big money.

Sure, his first bass will always be closer to the heart, due to obvious circumstances and chemistry, but his countdown to getting it will lead to lots of making memories on the dreamline.
