Fellas,
i have looked through the archives for the directions on removeing the pickup cover. One guys says to remove all the strings, another says to remove the plate around the cover. It seems overly complicated to me.First of all the cover is OVER the strings and the plate is UNDER the cover so how could you do that? So Im begging you is it just the removal of the two large screws?Remember I don't have this bass yet so i don't have any visual aids.
To remove the pickup cover,do I just remove the 2 screws?

Brent, go here and look under 4001/3 bridge assembly...it'll give you an exploded diagram...you need adobe acrobat that is available for download if you don't have it. The diagram should show you exactly how the rest/cover is installed. http://www.rickenbacker.com/us/boutique5.htm

It is also called the ash tray ....
1 - take off the strings.
2 - remove the four screws that hold the chrome pickup suround down.
3 - lift the pickup out of the bass carefully, don't break any solder joints
4 - remove the 2 pickup height adjustment screws ... the whole assembly now comes apart.
5 - take the handrest out and use it for an ash tray or a door stop.
6 - reassemble the pickup still being careful of the wiring.
7 - or hire someone to do it for you ...
