I was introduced to Rush about 2 years ago.. I've been struck by Ged's playing that entire time.. the guy is a bass god. Too bad he only used a Rickenbacker for about 10 years, but it's better that than not using one at all. I'm gonna make my 4001 into a tribute to those 10 years.

Too bad Squire turned down Geddy Lee's offer to produce him...that would have been quite interesting! I recall him saying that Lee is "like a little one-man Yes...he sings like Jon and plays bass like me" (paraphrased). I get the feeling Squire feels competitive/threatened by other bassists, and takes a dim view of those who've been "inspired" by his sound......Could be why he always trots out that story about how his Rick is so much lighter than a standard one, and that's why no one can quite get his sound.
I read somewhere that Geddy and Alex loved YES, but Squire didn't really like Rush all that much.
Yes.. Geddy is a one man YES... I mean, he even handles keys too! Not nearly as good a player as Wakeman, but I like Ged's keyboard work. The little solo in "The Trees" is one of my favorite keyboard pieces. It's just beautiful.
I noticed a couple bass similarites (sp?)in between Squire and Lee... both used Rickenbackers... both have a Fender J bass with black block inlays... both used a Wal (Although Squire's is a tripleneck.)

I've ALWAYS thought that, Jo...
Yet we have players here on the forum making 2030s with Humbuckers and bolt-on necks sound JUST the same as his RM1999...

If I had to pick Geddy or Squire... I'd pick Geddy any day. Probly cause im a finger player more then apick player. Ps I got Geddys solo album today.
I can relate to the whole competitive thing. Cause As you all know Im the same way. But I love listning to good music either way. And Its even better if its good music with great bass
.
Nate you should forget about the Geddy tribute and make yourself something awesome. Then again imnot much on tribute anything haha.

Geddy's solo album is better than most of Rush's newer stuff! It's not sterile or boring.
I'll do my Geddy tribute... but my 4003 will be ME. My mods, my ideas, MY sound. It'll probably be pretty cool when I finish it.
