Two control layout for 4003?

Post by ric620 »

I'm considering rewiring one of my 4003 basses to a 2 control (volume/tone) with the regular pickup selector and a blend control (or perhaps just the blend control).

Has anyone done this?

I made this for my '73 4001:

It is wired VVT with a Vintage/Modern switch for the .0047 cap. I used this setup until I got the V63 horseshoe and then I went back to the stock control layout but with the cap bypassed.

I have the control harness from my 4004Cii that I am not using, maybe that could be of use to you in your project.

the 4004 uses 500k ohm pots for volume and tone controls ... a 4001/4003 uses 250k ohm pots for volume and 500k ohm pots for tone ... I recommend using 250k ohm pots for a vt or vvt setup on a 4001/4003 bass ...

I am a big fan of the vvt arrangement ... but the only 4001 I ever played that was wired that way sucked ... perhaps it was done poorly???

Thanks Jeff.

I have some new CTS 250K pots here, so it should be an easy operation. Heck, I may use the 4004 harness as a guide and build a new one.
