UK Rock Hall of Fame Award Show

Post by atomic_punk »

If any of you have VH1 Classic, definitely try and catch this show! Awesome show, and Rics in abundance, whether it be footage of Roger Waters with "The Pink Floyd" with Syd Barrett and Roger's RM, or Joy Division, or the Undertones, (Azureglo 4001), or the early clips of the Who with Pete wailing on his Rics, it was a Ric-heavy show and a great show just to watch and rock out to. Catch it if you can, they are re-running it.

Version of Jimi's Hey Joe, Steve Winwood, on Keys/Vox, Mitch Mitchell on Drums totally destroyed by that wan**er Slash's egotistical **** so called soloing!

Sums up all that is wrong with a lot of supposed modern guitar players, the singer in New Order made fun of the whole thing by playing his Rick with his teeth!

You notice I didn't mention that as a highlight! Image It was quite self-indulgent.

One thing I WILL say, at least Slash can play. In this new generation of guitar players, there aren't a lot of famous ones who should take a whack at a Hendrix song.

If Jimi thought a 2 minute guitar solo would go on Hey Joe he would have done it, instead he played a tasteful 8 bars or so on what was originally a blues/folk song anyway.

Just goes to show the song matters more than the guitar solo, maybe some should take note!

Well, it started out as a relatively tasteful performance from Slash (given what I've seen/heard recently), but it didn't half go on.

I remember years ago seeing that Joy Division performance where Hooky has the Ric live on BBC2. Was it definitely a real Ric though? TRC looked strange.

I thought the same thing, looked like a copy when they flashed the TRC on TV, but another clip showed him with a Burgandy one. In the later clips with New Order, he was playing a Gibson Hollowbody.

I always thought Peter Hook played a Hondo Rick-copy.

I thought it was a great show. Not like our music awards shows filled with one hit wonders and tomorrows nobodys. You can bet that, although the UK Music Awards hasn't been around that long, that they'll get around to inducting progressive rock bands before the stuck up heirarchy in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame do. Heck , the Brits had Rick Wakeman and Tony Blair on their show.

Yeah, until the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Yes, Rush, King Crimson, and Genesis (old Genesis), they're not legitimate. Period. They acknowledge EVERY other musical movement within rock . . . hell, they even acknowledge Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync!!! But no prog (I'm sure they don't consider the Moody Blues or Pink Floyd to be progressive . . . they like to say "psychedelic").

Bastards.
