...that looks like a standard 4003 bridge p/u mounting ring also.

Actually, I didn't do the bass portrait thing. I've got all of Ted's, and figuring that we might do a Chicago/Milwaukee Confluence next spring, I figured I'd eventually get Jeff's collection as well. It was a great time. Thanks so much Ted!

You are quite welcome Paul! Good eye Brian but there is something else about that surround that is not quite stock.

I wasn't sure because of the angle of the pic so I didn't mention it but is it mounted backwards ?

Remind me to wipe the goofy $h!t-eating grin off my face next time I'm surrounded by Rickenbackers! I couldn't help myself. It was a fun night and went by too fast. Between the 5 that I brought, 2 that Paul brought, 3 that Mr. X brought, and Ted's 13(?) there wasn't anywhere near enough time to try them all out.

It was fun meeting all you guys and I look forward to a potential future midwestern confluence sometime soon.

I think JPS got all of my v63's mods. The plastic is obviously gold painted lucite. The bridge pickup ring is from a 70's 4001(yes, Brian it is mounted backwards. Good eye. The screw hole pattern is the same if you mount it that way and I haven't worked up the gall to drill any holes in this one!) The 'shoes are removed but the pickup remains. I think on the last page Ted meant to write: "There may well have been one but we COULDN'T hear a significant difference."(when comparing tone between the shoeless and shoe'd V63JG's).

Thanks for the compliments, guys. Looking at the last page makes me remember that I am: A) lucky, and B) spoiled!

Hahahaha. You look happy to be there...

I mentioned something about the 'shoe', but I was an idiot and didn't read everything ahead of time.

Nice job guys. Of course Paul never fails to be at a confluence(stateside anyway), regardless of size or location.

Yeah Nate, I think I've been trained to smile (years and years of "say cheese")whenever a camera is in the room, no matter how FAKE the smile! I need to break myself of that habit!(Note to self...remember: Angry scowl, impatient glare, or Billy Idol lip.) But I was happy to be there. I've never been surrounded by so many Rick basses. It was overwhelming.

Glad you like the Turq, Henny. Flash photography does make it tough to capture some of these colors. Especially the sparkly ones. The body on my turq looks like its glowing in that photo. So does the gold pickguard and TRC on my JG. Mr X's 4001AG photographed well. Paul's Monty and Mr. X's AG looked A LOT closer in color in person than the photos would indicate(but are still different).

Jeff is right, we could NOT hear a significant difference between shoe and shoeless V63s.

Of course, our test was less than scientific. We simply set the knobs to the same postions (full open) and played them one at a time through the same amp (while drinking Belgian ale).

Beautiful guitars! The Ruby Red 4003S must be a knockout in person. It's my favorite color especially on an S. I found one recently but 40% of the paint had been chipped or gouged off by someone who obviously did't believe in using a case. Even at $600 I had to pass on it.

Thanks, Rikk. Wait...you found a Ruby S with the chipped paint, or was it a deluxe Ruby?

I've seen a few deluxes; most with BT, some with chrome & white...but mine is the only Ruby 4003S I've ever seen. She was born in July of 1987. She is one sweet bass. Color aside, its my best playing bass and probably my best sounding bass as well.

I'm also lucky enough to have found a 4003S/5 in Ruby.
