Hey Bob...cool pix. Regarding John as 'Fat Elvis': I detect a bit of Brando in 'Apocalypse Now', as well...

I think that LIFE cover pix was not correct in the coloring..... John hair was much redder than that. I talked to a guy once who had met John at a party in NYC (mid 70's) and he told me that the most surprizing thing about meeting John in person was that he never had realized how red John's hair was. He went on to say that John had been very nice and then when they first met, John acknowledged the look of "shock and awe" in my friend's face and immediatly tried to set him at ease with a "yea yea, its me alright, no big deal, lets get past that... how are YOU?" kind of attitude.

SINGER/SONGWRITER Andrew Gold has included a very humorous story about meeting the Beatles when he was 13 on his website at andrewgold.com. I think it's in the trivia section. He also commented how red John's hair was in person.

when the Fabs were first on Sullivan, I remember commenting to by friend that it was a nice thing that all 4 beatles had black hair because it made them all look similar.

Whew!.... I'm definitely a child of the B/W TV era.

I went to the local Fred Meyer (Kroger) store today to get a copy and they didn't have it! Is this a special edition? I didn't know that Life was still published.

LIFE as a regular magazine died a while ago... I do believe its one of their "special" editions.

I saw them at the local mega-bookseller on a table devoted to Beatles books.
Listen to that sustain!

Fantastic photo on the cover of Life. I wonder how many times Lennon had his picture taken?

Ron, I found it at our local grocery store similar to Kroger's here in Pa.
I also just found it listed for sale on Amazon.

You should be able to find it locally at a news stand, or a bookstore like Border's perhaps.
Buy it before someone else does.

quite a transformation from the "Fat Elvis" period to the anorexic look in the Warhol photo.

Unexpectedly got this magazine for Christmas and it's great.

I kept wondering where they got these photos, some I had seen but only low-res. It's definitely something nice for the collection!
