Original case??? I've never seen one like this!

It's not a factory case, but it's not the first Rickenbacker bass in the UK I've seen with a case like that. There were others for sure. What the relationship is, if any, I can't say.

It's too loose-fitting to be a proprietary case.

Prob for some other brand, or possibly a European in-stock number???

My green RM1999 came in a case exactly like that. I think they are possibly for the Shaftesbury copy basses of that era.

The Shaftsbury bass wasn't a 4001 shape, it was a 330 shape.

It's a far east thing.
Way back when on 48th st in NYC, prices were 40% off list,
but that didn't include a case. If you couldn't afford the stock case, these were less $$$ but not as cheap as a chipboard case.

Yes, it is a Far East thing. I've seen a few locally. Good for storing real Rickenbacker basses though...

Back in the '70s, I had a friend in high school that bought a 4001 bass copy made by Aspen. It came in a hardshell case exactly like the one in the picture.
