Yes indeed checkers rule! (If you have to have binding of course).
Alas, the bass in question has no sparkles; only white plastic......

Well -
this just in-
Seller made mistake in last email-
inlays are sparkles.
Didn't want anyone on the forum to think I'm scamming.....
When I got the email to the contrary I had been thinking
of retracting my bid.....
Now I believe in Santa again!

It looks like the "Transistion MOP" inlays that we have seen before. Those from around March/April 73 that have just a touch of MOP in them, but are mainly the solid block type, but still full width.

It looked that way to me too, but the photos are pretty dark.

These are the MOP inlays on my April 73, 4001.

I've never seen a 1973 4001 with sparkle inlays.

Full width plastic. Those are the first transitional inlays, later in the year (September)they look like this...no "sparkle". Kinda like linoleum.

They look like the ones on Jon's bass pictured above, definitely full-width, not like my linoleum ones.

Yep-
Everyone withdraw your bids so I can get it period!
I've been in contact with the seller about this.
He said he'd send pics. He said the inlays are what he called
Diamondite and not the cream stuff.....

Still want it bad........

BTW-
Jon , on your 73, isn't that more MOTS Image

What's the radius? I'm re-fretting a de-fretted April 73
and I want to get it right.

Sorry John, I can't help you out with the radius of the neck. I'd be guessing at 12", but it's something that. I've never been interested in knowing.

Next time it's in the shop, i'll have my luthier measure it.

Why don't you send a email to Rickenbacker's Service dept and see if they can tell you for sure. Or ask the question over on the RIC board here.
