From doing repair work, I've seen all kinds of stuff... you'd be surprised how many people do not know how to put their strings on!
Besides the ends sticking out, or winding them on the wrong way, they have layers and layers of windings wrapped around the post! Good way to not stay in tune! I guess some people don't trim them before they put them on.

I put on all my own strings. Which all look pretty good to me. Nothing like the horride that David described. 2 times around, top to bottom, all coming out from the inside and such. Do rics have the whole in the center of the tuning machine?
I laugh at most of my friends strings. Kind of what David said. Then they wonder why the guitar wont stay in tuned. But thats what distortion is for right? (not talking about like Chris or Geddy hehe)

John - I'd be interested in knowing whether you can swap for gold TRC's as well. I have a 4004cii BBR on order and thought that it would look great with a gold TRC rather than the stock TRC which is black with gold lettering. Please post RIC's response when they get back to you, (unless someone from RIC wants to chime in).
