Bob Atherton's bass on ebay has 3 as well, from 1984.

Well, I may have to revise my theory...let's see some more pics of different ones...

In the photos section on the main Rickresource site, in group 2, there is a 1997 4001V63 in Turquoise with three dots, and an '84 V63 with two. YMMV, LOL..

My 84 v63 had 3 dots like the one pictured in R Smith's book. I think that the Turquoise bass got the dot by error.

Wasn't that one on Mike Parks' site?

The one on Mike Park's site had two.

That was my first thought, too.

Hmmm-
Well that does again prove that there can be errors
on the production line. When that bass was built, there
were several models available with similar necks.....

Is that a 4001CS with 3 dots, Jared?

Are the triangle inlays the same way. Some 3 some 2?

No. I have never seen a deluxe without a 19th fret marker.

Fact is, there's no way that Turq V63 could be a 4003S transient...

So, conclusion... it must have been a bodge at the factory.

Jared, are you sure your CS has three dots, not two? Image
