Tailpiece lift.

On my Monty v63 my tailpiece is starting to lift up.Why hasn't this been addressed yet??? its been happening to Ric's for a decade now?

Its a first for me but I would think This would have been fixed by now...Im not real happy about it,no wonder Geddy, put bad asses on all his basses,If they went back to the old mold they[we] would not have this problem.

PS,ADDING 5000 SCREWS TO IT IS NOT A SOLUTION,IT ALSO LOOKS ******.

i remember JH mentioning that the 4003 tailpieces were redesigned to add more ribs to avoid this problem.

Ken - how old is the tailpiece? my 91 4003 had a badly lifted one. i thought it would be sensible to buy a new tailpiece as the bass has black hardware that was about to be discontinued. The new piece was MUCH heavier and thicker on the underside. once i fitted the new (flat) tailpiece, it still had a "lift" at the back. This makes me think that the face of the body is not infact level.

perhaps this is the issue here? or have you witnessed it lift?

My V63 (1989) has the 2 factory additional screws behind the bridge. My C64 (2003) does not. For my particular basses, no problems yet.

Dave, look at your fireglo again you got the same thing I got, see it?

Ken, about 3/32" lift on the fireglo. However, just about every one I have (4000, 4001, V63, CS, 4003, 4080), has a 1/16" to an 1/8" lift at the very very back. That's just the way the are, right??

John Hall did mention a new bridge design for this year... hopefully it will adress the problem.

so what is the standard height of lift then? or are they supposed to be exactly flat with no gap at all?

The gap will vary depending on how level the top of the bass is. A little lift, like on that FG, is not harmful.

The problem is when it starts it doesn't stop it gradually gets worse over time.What you mean its not harmful now.

most of the tailpiece lift up basses do not have functional problems ... the real problem bases are 5 and 8 string models ... so the real problem with yours is cosmetic ... if it is new it is still under warranty so exchange the tailpiece for a new one ... I have no problem adding extra screws ... to me extra screws look better than the lift up ...

My '80 has about that much lift - always has.
