This is an early one, all right. Real vintage Klusons....nice!

I've got a '90 model, but a friend once had an earlier guitar ('85 or '86). He had the guitar in his apartment, in it's case, when it was stolen along with some camera equipment. He was cleaning, re-stringing and preparing to install a twelve-saddle bridge at the time. The thieves got the guitar, but without the bridge, tailpiece, and a few other parts. I often wonder what became of that guitar.

Ron, I love the color.

On the other hand, the one in the eBay ad shows the disadvantages of poor flash photography on a burst finish.

The close up shots show it to be a pretty nicely-aged FG. The full-body ones have the center washed out and the edges a pretty nasty orange.

Blechhhhh.

I love these early ones. You can have your c63s- no disrespect to them- but these have a mystique and look that I just love. The '80s were a great Beatle nostalgia time- 3 of them were still alive and young, and it was a lot of fun. Now, it's a little scary, two are gone and the other two are getting on in years- it's bittersweet.

These actually started shipping in like January or February of 1985 I think, right? The earlier ones have a very washed out fireglo like this one and typically have the fake 80s Chrome Klusons with the screw in hex bushing.

Then, for a short period of time they actually put real Klusons on them like this one has.

Eventually, the finish got closer to the correct darker perimeter and and they still had Klusons on them. That might have been some time in 1986. For a short period around that time, the V series 360-12s were really close to the original 60s guitars.

I heard that George from Dear Prudence in Japan went crazy with excitement one year at the Chicago show when he found one like that with the Klusons.

I agree with his enthusiasm.

These do have an appeal for sure; the headstock contour on these early V64s is more in line with 60s-era Rickenbacker 12-strings. This is a really nice example too.

In 1979 I ordered a 360 oswb12 in autumn glow finish, checked bound both sides. I would like to know if anybody can tell me if any more with checked binding were made.

Ron, PLEASE, PLEASE, give us a pic of that if you have one. I have personally never seen a double-bound 360/12 with checkered binding on both sides. Has anyone else? JWilli?

Ron sent me some pics. Holy Cow. It lives..a beautiful 360/12WB with toasters, checker binding top and bottom, and finished in Autumnglo.

Now, this is just my opinion, but I think we are looking at one of the most unique, beautiful, and valuable RICs of the past 30 years.
