Kent....peace, brother...and don't forget, I didn't mention that line about 'Condi', you did. Being a European-American, I don't feel the 'N' word is mine to throw around. I called her a white man in a business suit. I don't know which is a more scathing characterization, but there ya go.

A person's actions make up the all-defining aspect of who that person is. That's my point: it doesn't matter what you look like, but what you act like, and everybody be actin' pretty 'White' up at that 'White House'. I know that sounds racist, but man, I've been around the world seventeen times and I've seen some nasty, nasty things...

At least you called me 'friend', and I appreciate that...betcha never imagined you'd have a friend like me, didja? (You're a hard man to 'disarm', but I'm tryin' my best...)

Yup, peace, bro.... but to be accurate, you did say this:

>>>>Generally speaking, I get really nervous whenever confronted by a white man in a business suit...even when that white man is named Alberto Gonzales, John Yee, Clarence Thomas or Condoleeza Rice....

..... and then when I quoted what Belafonte said you enthusiastically endorsed his words. It doesn't take a PhD to put 2 and 2 together on that one. So when I made the point about the argument (currently in vogue as seen by those 2 articles) that blacks just aren't really "black" if they dont toe the party line, it does seem that you've bought into that particular way of thinking hook line and sinker. And yes, I do consider that a racist attitude.

>>>and everybody be actin' pretty 'White' up at that 'White House'. I know that sounds racist

Yes, my friend it does. VERY much so. I think you need to do a serious gut-check as to where exactly your world travels have landed you.

Daaaaaaaaayyy-ooooo! BTW, Belafonte has to be given credit for one thing... he's the world champ at turning a single hit record into a multi-decade career. What else has he done besides that song? (and IMHO it was a pretty ****** song to begin with).

Ooooo-weee! I didn't enthusiastically endorse his words, I attempted to clarify them by pointing out that the phrase he used is a part of American history...you put 2 and 2 together and came up with the square root of Pi...

I'm hip that you think I'm a racist...you don't have to keep hittin' me in the head with that hammer: I get it, okay? Thanks for your advice, but I'll check my guts and you check yours. I just want people not to act 'white' or 'black', but 'human'...and I'm not seeing much of that at the top of the pyramid...

Know what that makes me? A Humanist. Stay armed if you must...

sorry man, but I'm not going to let you rewrite history here ......

my words:
>>>>>That line of logic leads directly to Harry Belafonte's statement where he called Condi and Colon Powell Bush's "house niggers" .... a more despicable comment I haven't heard in a long long while.

your response:
>>>>>Hurray for Devo, those crazy Ohio 'Leftists'...and hurray for Harry Belafonte as well. It's almost never pleasant to tell the truth as Harry did, but African Americans who forget their history and opt for 'stepping and fetching' are at the very least to be pitied.

... so you may want to take it back or rephrase it or whatever, but my math was NOT wrong at all.

>>>>>I'm hip that you think I'm a racist...

Actually I was very careful not to say that. I said that you've said racist things and have enthusiastically endorsed a stone-cold racist statement. But actually I dont think you are a racist at heart at all. Overly idealistic? Yes. Caught up in a whacky left political outlook that cant for a minute stand the light of logic and fact? Yes. Racist? No.

>>>>Stay armed if you must...

Count on it.

BTW Dane... you might be interested to hear that I'm currently working on a design (enclosure/mount etc) for a solar spectrograph instrument that will be going to the south pole a year from now. The main reason for going there is to get 24 hr viewing of the sun which is important for a scientific reason thats beyond my understanding.

Apparently the viewing site is out in the boonies (starting at McMurdo, I believe). They bulldoze out a big trench in the ice/snow and put in a science/living trailer and then cover it all up again. I guess you've seen that operation live and up close?

Whew...thanks for the subject change, bro...I was startin' to think you didn't like me no mo'...

Yeah, I was a part of that scene for 9 years...here are a couple shots from the musty archives, circa 1980...me on Observation Hill above McMurdo with Mt. Erebus in the background, and standing at the South Pole: a White Boy in a White World (sorry)...

wow... there's actually a candy cane at the south pole! Very cool pix.

When I was talking to the guys (and one gal) who will be taking this instrument down there I got the distinct feeling that even if asked (which I wont be) I probably would not want to go on that particular trip. It seemed like after about a day the giddy "hey I'm actually in Antarctia!" feling would wear off and the rest would be very cold, tedious, cold, repetitive, cold, cramped, cold work. Did I mention that I have an aversion to cold?

Besides, I just cant see myself in an under-snow bunker in Antarctia when I could be playing in a rock'n'roll band in Hawaii.

Wow.. south pole. My grandfather was stationed down there a while back for some reason. He was actually the first person to have surgery down there. We have some pictures of penguins.. Lol.

Lame post, I know.

Somewhat interesting Chapman thing - The other night I went to my regular poker game. While there I chatted with someone I've known for a long time, but found out something new.

He used to work as an administrator at Castle Medical Center on Oahu and knew Mark David Chapman. Chapman had gone from mental patient to maintenance person to some sort of media assistant job.

My friend apparently knew Chapman pretty well and one day when he heard the name on the radio as the suspect in the Lennon murder he said he was shocked but also not completely surprized. Even then he knew that Chapman was a total nutcase.

Since 1980, my poker friend has corresponded with Chapman via letters and then email (although not for the last couple of years).

"WOW!", I said... "what in the world to you talk about? Did he ever talk about what he did?".

"No, not a whole lot... he's clearly derranged". My friend seemed reluctant to get into details and I didn't press the subject.

And thats it.

Weird.

>I imagine Yoko will freak out at this movie also. >However, given her recent exploits of making a quick >buck by hawking cheap "Lennon style" trinkets, perhaps >she'd happily go along with it if they cut her in for >10% of the gross.

Ouch! I guess you aren't a proud owner of the offical "Lennon Whiskey Decanter" McCartney spotted in a shop once.
I remember when Yoko gave Nike the rights to use "Revolution" in their ad, she seemed very determined to spin it off as if it was taken without her permission. When she finally was cornered on the whole thing, she professed she gave permission "to expose John's music to a new generation"....whutf***ingever, Yoko. Apparently she isn't confident that John's music stands on its own.

Kent...saw a Baba Wawa interview with Chapman on TV last nigt...I think it was replayed from a few years ago, but I'm not sure (her hairstyle didn't help to pin down the time frame at all)...anyway, oh man, that cat is horribly unhinged...seriously 'insane in the brain'. I could quote you a line or two from his 'rationale', but I assure you it would not shed any light on anything. He did whine a little about the terrible language the NYC cop used on him as they were loading John into the ambulance...

What a piece of dung...(I know that's not very sympathetic of me)...

Wish Barbara had at least punched him in the nose. I would've found the nearest heavy object and gotten at least one good whack in.

"That's not a candy cane, that's the Barber Shop"...

You're right, Jeff...but despite the lack of other customers, the wait was too long and I blew it off...
