Patrick - Just given the fact that you did a radio show, I'd bet that you had a lot more listeners than you realize. Let's face it - probably 99.9% of listeners will never call in.

The fact that you played your faves during your on-air time speaks volumes for your own taste. If you didn't get recognition from others during that time doesn't mean it wasn't heard.

Kudos to you for doing playing you wanted. I'm sure it was appreciated.

I was 21, had recently moved from Memphis to Colorado and was watching Monday Night Football when Howard Cosell made the announcement. I took it hard and, like most of you, I started getting phone calls from friends back in Memphis who wanted to check and see if I had heard and if I was okay. I wandered in the obligatory haze for several days and slowly came out from under it.

In reading these remembrances, though, something has occurred to me that I probably have in common with most of you. It felt personal. As if he wasn't taken from "us", he was taken from "me". Even now, when I explain The Beatles to my son (who loves them) and my niece and nephew (who live with us and have no choice but to hear them - AND they love them) it's hard to talk about "that day" without getting choked up.

John was neither saint nor sinner and seemed never to want to be seen as either extreme. But he was someone who attempted to leave the world better than he found it and I can't help but feel that I am in a better place for his efforts, along with the efforts of Paul George and Ringo and countless others who have also tried to leave this place in a slightly better condition.

As a piece of local (Denver) trivia, there was one record store that took all of John Lennon's solo albums out of the racks on Tuesday December 9th. The owner said that if you didn't want them before he was killed - you could just wait a day!

Hey, Harley...sorry,man...I never realized you were a 'local'! Just curious...what record store was it? My wife (and the trombone player in our band) used to work at Wax Trax...

If you're not busy this Sunday, our Balinese orchestra is performing from 4:30pm to 6:00pm at Hamilton Recital Hall at the Newman Center at D.U. (University and Iliff)...it's sponsored by the Indonesian Consulate in L.A. It's free to the public, but the room only seats 200, so the seats could go fast. I'd love to see you there if you have the chance...bring the whole family. If you can make it, please come up and introduce yourself after the show...I'll be playing the part of the long-haired emcee, in addition to my musical duties...
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...

Interesting, Bill... I've wondered for a while what it would be like to do that. And Grade 5 would be right about what I'd be interested in. What were you doing before this career change? ... any other things you can tell me about the experience? (feel free to contact me by email if you want to chat)
