Thanks for the welcome Mark.
Dane, it pains me every time I think of your doubleneck. I was looking around, but hadn't quite stuck that much away at the time. I've even had my drummer phoning up a few weeks ago to say he'd found one, only to discover it was an old reference to yours. Did I read on another forum that yours went to someone in a Rush tribute? If you still had it, I'd buy it instantly!

Jon...it pains me every time I think of it, too...then again, it was getting to the point where it pained me every time I put it on, so perhaps it's all for the best...
The guy who bought it isn't a forum member...plays in a Rush tribute up in Kent, Washington. I'll try to get the name of the band for anyone up there who might want to check them out...or, at least, to check out 'the axe'...

I didn't get where I am today by being on time...
That's one of the craziest (in a good way), coolest custom jobs I've ever seen, Dane.
Ted: In the above picture think I can make out a standard Rick 6-string bridge seating on the cavity originally meant for a standard 4003 4 or 5 saddle block. Right, Dane?

A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.
Ted, the guitar neck does use a bass tailpiece but the bridge cavity was heavily modified to accept an Ed Roman chrome plated brass bridge that I picked up cheap on Ebay. In retrospect, a stock RIC guitar bridge, after slight modification, would have been a much easier fit. This instrument was actually made using two heavily modified RIC 3000 basses but similar results could be had using a 4003 and a 620.
I thought it might have been something like that. I'm just not sure I could bring myself to pay UK prices for those, & cut them up (not to mention the cost of someone joining them up). Then again, would probably still be cheaper than a 4080.
I cannot deny there is a little bit of the collector in me too.

Well I would put the bass on the top. If you wanted the 620 on top,in order for it to balance better, you'd need to graft the 4003's upper horn onto it. At that point a transparent finish of any kind would be out. With the 4003 on top and a properly shaped pickguard, a transparent finish would work.
