I recently spent some time with Greg Rahilly comparing our two FG 360/6s. What amazed us both was the difference in the location and/or size of the pickguards on the guitars. Note the difference in distance between the top edge of the guard and the edge of the sloped section where the 'R' tailpiece is.
Sure it does-
A lot of parts on Ricks are hand cut and hand placed.
That's one thing about Rick that I like. True that today's
Ricks are more consistent, but it warms my heart to see
little things like this....
You're probably right, Steve H. Next time we get together I'll take some comparative measurements. I'm not having a whinge, BTW.... just thought I'd present an interesting observation.
As one would expect, Steve, the sound from both is brilliant!!
It's the shaping of the ducktail. Look at the space between the jackplate and the scoop, and the space around the "R" tailpiece, on both guitars. It's in the sanding prior to finishing.
Both look superb, BTW...

That's really interesting...most of the Rickenbackers made in 1960 have a deep scallop, deeper than the '05 above. It is one of the ways you can tell a '60 Rickenbacker hollow-body before you see the jackplate. Cool. Wonder if there are more 05's like that?
I have just had a look at my 2003 360/6 FG, and it appears to be nearly identical to Greg's. Maybe my pickguard is extremely slightly closer to the scoop than his, but it's impossible to tell for sure without Steve's tape measure.
Howard and I were not complaining about the differences between the two 360's, we were celebrating the fact!
2 Beautiful guitars BTW!
Someone hit the nail on the head by saying that it's what makes these guitars so endearing, each one is individual.
In my own case, the sound is just brilliant,i haven't ever played a guitar that i've totally loved it's sound...until now!
Howard, Darren and myself will surely compare as soon as the silly season(Christmas) is over.
