At The Risk Of Being Uncharitable

At the risk of seeming insensitive and uncharitable, I would like to reinforce the obvious ... "words do hurt."

Some posters to the Rickenbacker Forum seem to embrace the position that they are able to say whatever they want without weighting the consequences of their comments. My suggestion to them is that they join or start their own "Free Association Forum." But I can't allow this to continue here.

Suffice it to say that persistent unwanted and ill-natured comments of an aggressive nature, humourous or not, interfere with the goodwill of others and intimidate those who want to contribute. These posts leave me with the unecessary burden of spending considerable time editing, or unfairly deleting some threads all together. To my way of thinking, neither of these options is desireable.

So my straightfoward solution is to suspend those who relate to others in this way.

Impossible to disagree with Peter's comments or to say anything except to thank him for his generosity, both in spirit and in act.

Since I joined the Forum almost exactly a year ago, there have been a few incidents (mercifully few, I hasten to add) when I was sure that somebody's day had been spoiled by the comments of someone whose ability to self-censure was absent, either temporarily or congenitally.

Peter gets my full support on this one, as if it even requires saying...

Peter has my full support as well.

Having helped organize the M.A.R.C., I have witnessed the great fellowship that this Forum has generated both on and off the internet, and it would be a shame to see someone suspended for something that can easily be avoided with a little common sense. We're here because of the love of the gear, and please remember that--first and foremost.

This forum has done an amazing job self-moderating in the time I've been here, but sometimes it takes stepping in and I commend Peter for doing that.

The offer for assistance in a moderating capacity is on the table if you choose Peter... I spend a pretty good amount of time here and I'd be honored to help you take care of the place.

I think since a thread was removed, the thread referencing the thread that was removed should have been removed as well. Let's take Peter's desires to heart and remember that this is A) a public forum where your words can be read by a LOT of people for years to come, and B) a place where people (who are just like you, Ric lovers) come to get info and a laugh and have a good discussion.

100% behind you Peter. I missed this, so don't know what it is all about, but you have my full support, as well as everyone elses it seems. This is a fantastic community here & you should be proud of what you have achieved. I look on members here as friends, even though I have never met them & we can't have this spoiled by an inconsiderate few. Well done & thanks for a wonderful (& difficult) job.

I missed this, and from the comments here, I'm glad I did (or perhaps I should say it looks as though I didn't miss anything worthwhile).

Peter, your forum is without a doubt the best on the 'net. A true on-line community. Your efforts here are outstanding, and deserve the utmost respect. You definitely have mine.

I echo Tony's comments about the friends I've met here, and would also like to say thanks for the great place and well done.
