Vibrato

Post by dead_eye »

Im getting a new 620 and was thinking of putting an accent vibrato on it. In order for proper installation will the guitar body have to be modified in any way, ie drilling holes in it? Or will the accent vibrato fit on the guitar just like the R tailpiece?
Thanks,
Paul

Remove the bottom (rear, whatever) strap bolt and use it to screw the vibrato in place. You're done.

Then it's time to string it up. Now, that's a fish of a different kettle.

Or something like that, I forget...

Thats it?? Thats all there it to it!!???? Their's gotta be a catch, Paul, I detect something fishy in your fish remark. All kidding aside I imagine it would be easier to string than the R tailpiece!!?
Thanks,
Paul

Both are mildly difficult to string. Both can be maddening if you don't have some masking tape on hand.

"Maddening" is a good word to describe the one and only time i've restrung an Ac'cent. Those strings are really starting to get old...

Keep in mind that the screw holes for the R tailpiece will be visible, as the Ac'cent doesn't cover them.

Glenn, the screw holes from the R tailpieces ARE covered up by the accent. I have two accented 330's & one accented 350V63. The accent doesn't however, cover up the screw holes from a trapeze, so I left the screws in & it looks OK.

As for stringing, it's amazing how quickly you get used to it! No problem now, but it's not really a 'chat between numbers' change, if you break a string, unlike the 'R'.

How's the tuning on yours Tony? What I mean is, do they stay in tune with the accent?

Cole, if your strings are suitably stretched and installed properly, you won't have any difficulties with tuning. I bend and tug on my 1997's Ac'cent every time I play. No problems ever. I love it so much, I'm thinking of modding my 360V64 with one.

IF you install one, you may find yourself bending the bar to suit your needs...

My Ac'cent also keeps in tune great. Just make sure you stretch those strings.

Thanks guys, I've always stayed clear of whammy bars because of tuning problems. You mite say I'm anal about tuning. I mite have to give the accent a try.

Cole, I have no real problems, as long as I don't do anything too radical with it. I think a lot of the tuning issues are not to do with the accent, but the bridge saddle slots & nut slots. These need to be cut with a vibrato unit in mind. Having said that, mine were just standard & work fine.
