650 wiring layout

Post by jblakey »

I am curious if the 650 comes with volume controls that affect eachother.. like a Les Paul. Or does the wiring allow you to change the volume of one pickup without changing the other pickup's signal?

The volume controls do not affect each other. The 650 vol pots are wired between the selector switch and the output jack, the wiper is wired to the selector switch (input to the pot). A Les Paul's vol pots are wired between the pickup and the selector. The wiper is wired to the selector (output from the pot). This is why with both pickups selected on a Paul and one volume turned all the way down neither will play.

I can't understand why controls that affect the other would be desireable at all. Playing Rick basses for so long has perhaps colored my view. Has Ric ever done this?
Thanks
