Yeah bass can be hard if you dont have alot of form. Im so glad I have a teacher... and great one at that. I dont see where people get off on bass is easier. I try to think of the two in totally different lights and say to compare one to the other is stupid. I know there are things that are the same. But... If I just say that then it stops a fight waiting to happen haha.
Dont laugh at the fretless guitar thing. I thought about getting a cheap fender or something and making it into a fretless. Of course id play it more like a bass then a guitar. But you know... even tho its fretless id try to throw in chords. Never limit yourself right?
P.S If I ever post a fretless guitar scratch... make sure your drunk before listning to it
ROTFL!
You know, i've tried to learn the bass, believe it or not... the bassist of our now-non-existent band left and somebody just had to take his job... after a coupla weeks of trying, my bud told me: "Just leave it, i take it - looks like it weighs more than you"... (not true in fact but i think you get the drift... twas a pitiful look - and sound - indeed...)
Well, if you make a fretless guitar Jacob, could you let us know and post a sound sample? That should be something, indeed.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
It's a heck of a lot harder to play a fretless guitar than a fretless bass...and I can't even play fretless bass! I'm not even going near a fretless guitar!
"They make great f***'n basses". - Lemmy, NAMM 2009
I always seem to have problems with guitar players, dunno why...... It's so hard to keep them happy and smiling in a band, and they always want to be upfront with everything instead of playing guitar in the band.....a strange brew they are LOL
Beside owning 14 guitars and basses and my own homestudio, what do I want more?
Like fashion models and fighter pilots, guitar players are constantly being told by those around them how fabulous they are. Few people have what it takes to rise above that **** and become a regular human being...
Yeah I heard from a guitarist that there actually is a guy who plays fretless guitar. I dont know how true it is but I heard it anyways. It would only be harder if you were doing chords. Concidering most the guitarist I know only play power chords it wouldnt be so bad. Hell I play power chords on my fretless.
While he are on fretless wonders here. I have a Xmas recording of umm... I cant remember the name of the song. But the bassist switchs between a 4string fretless and what I believe is a 8 string fretless. Its the best Xmas recordings iv ever heard. ITs a jazz verson by the way.
Sheena, it was a very long time ago so I don't remember a lot but it was very difficult to play partly due to the fact that the frets were basically ripped out of it so there was a bit of damage to the rosewood board and the fret slots were not filled in making the fingerboard a bit rough to play on.
"switchs between a 4string fretless and what I believe is a 8 string fretless"
Just finished talking with our keyboardist/vocalist. We recently put together a rough recording of a recent gig. All the guitarist said was that it sucks and that you couldn't hear the guitar. We found it interesting b/c we used 4 mics to record the show. 3 in the back of the room, and 1 ON HIS AMP. And he still couldn't hear it? He also has zero stage presence. Stands like a stone with a concerned expression on his face. Oh, and another thing - he seems to be the one who practices the most and I think is the most "talented" (in that he has a great ear for music, picks things up easily, etc) however he remains the most inconsistent from show to show. Sometimes he just boggles my mind. Rant over
fretless guitars no different then fretless bass..lol...i still play all my jazz standards using chords an position...its the same ...its also no different playing slide guitar and dobro either i play both...its all an intonation issue thats all use your ears and get the chord...fretsize isnt it either..i have 3 medium scale fretless and three long...theyre all different from one another...and the hagstrom i ripped the frets outta when i was 16 and the pj bass are still not filled...you dont play on the fretline for a true pitch anyway...
...ive only played fretless since i was 16...im 45 now...all ive done since 19 is play professionally...no day job...that was tougfh...an cold an hungry too...i also am divorced now..lol
hello everyone, im only 18 years old so I'm probably the youngest one here, and this is my first post. i have played only a few shows with two bands, i play bass in one band which is kind of ska music and only one show so far, which went well except i was borrowing an amp at the time i didnt really know how to work it i left it set the way it was, it worked out, this was before i had my rick and...well, knew how to work an amplifier. i also play guitar in a surf rock and rockabilly band in which i use the silent tuner on my amp (fender cyber deluxe) although i do have quite a few different channels on it (reverb, extra reverb, fender bassman emulation, clean) i can tell that some of the other band members can be a bit annoyed with me sometimes making channels or tinkering at pracrtice, although it all comes together when i quickly switch between them between songs.
however the point of this post is my organ player just joined the band like a month ago and has already missed practice once and forgot the a/c adapter for his keyboard once..... it's starting to be unsettling and i really hope it doesnt turn into a problem
