What kind of music do you play with your Ric?
I am just curious to see what everone else here is doing musically.
Personally i play alot of Indie and post-punk, and do a little bit of Grind and hardcore on the side.

Blues, Rhythm & Blues, funk, soul, jazz- originals and covers. Progressive rock for recording projects.
And now for some shameful self promotion check out mp3's of my band: http://www.mp3.com/fourfriedchickens
FYI the songs titled "Homewrecker" and "911" were done with a 4003s/5. and It does not sound alot like a typical trebly Rick, It came out as a very full bass sound...

Everything! I've played traditional through contemporary country, bluegrass, folk, and every imaginable type of rock, punk, alternative, metal, you name it. (Everything except jazz actually, I just don't 'get it'.) There are many players who think that they need different basses for different styles or songs so that they can sound more like the original version. I am not among them. What do you gain by trying to achieve a sound exactly like the original? You now sound exactly like 10,000 other bassists!
It's amazing what new life can be breathed into an old chestnut simply by using a tone that's different from what people are expecting. You might get some criticism at first, but stick to your guns and use your Rick all the time. You've got the best, why change? (I blush slightly as I write this now that I've fallen into the 12-string gene pool, but I'd be the first to buy a Rick 12ver if they made one!)

I'm in a Beatles tribute band. I use my lefty 4001S(and a lefty Hofner, of course). That pays the bills, and I have a side project of original music. We sound like a cross between The Jam and The Church. For this I use my lefty 4001CS and lefty 4003.

Mostly seventies prog-oriented stuff. A week before last Christmas we played some Renaissance songs at a friend's birthday party, including Let It Grow, Carpet Of The Sun and Northern Lights. My 21-fret 4001 made a killing!
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I have been playing Rics since 1973 ... I have used them for ... Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Heavy Metal, Punk, Country, Jazz, Blues, Christian Music, Grunge, Modern Rock, Originals, and more ... I am playing a lot of modern rock these days on my 4003s5 and I make my own 5 string jazz and p-basses and use them somewhat ... The 4003s5 works great for stuff like creed ...

Everything that needs an electric bass. I can even use my 4003 for the heavily processed electronica stuffs.
The RIC bass even has a unique "slap and pop"(I don't do that a lot though) sound that makes you distinquished among other slapandpoppers.
I resort to my Michael Kelly QAB II acoustic bass when I want that acoustic quality.

I have 2 main projects.
The first one is a Beatles tribute band. This will be cool to play, and many people attempt to that where I live.
The second one is a prog rock / prog metal project. I want to join or raise a band in that genre.
In both cases, the Rickenbacker will be fully appropriate...
All the best,
JL
