Was Pauls Original 4001 Amber Fireglo?

I'm not sure, [still a rookie]
Is the Amber Fireglo an original Color from the sixties or the way the Basses have aged?

When did they put the Checkerboard Bindings?

Looks to me like the 4005's on Ebay could be Amber Fireglo...
Is the 4005 coming Back???

No... actually, it was Fireglo.

AMBER fireglo is the COY 2006 only, and a replica of the Fireglo of the 60's, focusing on the aging (or yellowing) of the finishes of that time...

4005s are not coming back... John Hall stated that too many times ; ).

The checkerboard binding is a feature of the end of the 60's also (+ beginning of the seventies) and a special feature on some models afterwards (like the 350 SH or the 660).

There were various shades of 60's Fireglo along with the ageing process and to what the bass has been exposed.

Here is the dark Fireglo from 64 that is the same as Macca's bass. It has also has seen a lot of exposure.

Here is a lighter Fireglo from 68 that shows very little sign of ageing because it has spent it's life in a case.

So they vary in shades as well as in the ageing process..

Checker binding appeared in 63 on the 4001.
Maybe even as early as 62, but since the earliest
deluxe 4001 I've seen is 63 I can't say......

Paul's bass was a 4001s export model fireglo ... it got repainted in the late 60s and then stripped down to natural in the 70s and it got a replacement pickup in the 70s as well ...

I think it's all to do with the shading. Here's my old gal which has a definite honey colour to it. Whether it has aged to eventually look like this is hard to say.
