"Get Back - Winter Of Discontent" DVD

Post by jeff »

For all of you folks who can't wait until the official release of 'Let It Be' on DVD (fall of this year is what I've heard) here's the next best thing! It's a two (2) disc set featuring over 200 minutes of the January 1969 "Get Back/Let It Be" sessions with 47 minutes never before seen until now. Some of the footage is in B&W, but most is in color, and the best quality to date! I have most of the audio from all of these sessions, so to finally see some of this material unfold is pretty amazing! It certainly wets the appetite as to what may be included on the official release as far as 'bonus material' goes. But, then again we're talking about Apple, and they've certainly dropped the ball before.
I like what is included as a bonus at the end of disc two; the COMPLETE performance from August 22, 1962 of "Some Other Guy" live at the Cavern Club straight from Granada TV studio archives!
I've posted some scans of the artwork from the DVD cover and inner track listings from the booklet so all of you can check out what's on this set. This is not a cheap set! These are real Japanese silver-pressed DVDs, not DVD-R knock-offs. I got mine off a seller from Ebay for $64.99 plus S&H. Some sellers from Japan are selling them for $75 and up! But, this is the most significant release of this material to date (besides a legit release), so expect the high price. Unless for those who are willing to settle for DVD-R copies, that might be a better $$$ solution. I highly recommend this set for all you 'Get Back/Let It Be' junkies!Image

Wow. There's "Commonwealth" on there - strange/amusing performance (and I believe that song is the genesis of "Get Back"). Didn't they do House of the Rising Sun on the 10th after George left the band? That's a really trippy performance.

People need to STACK their pictures to keep them from going WIDE.

Sorry about the WIDE post folks. The pictures were actually stacked in the preview, but when I hit 'post this', this is what I got. My humble apologies!

Different strokes for different folks. I will say one thing however, it does show that The Beatles were enjoying themselves more than 'Let It Be' the final released version of the film conveys. If some of this 'happier' footage was used, 'LIB' wouldn't have come off as so gloomy (IMHO).

Harry, I haven't seen the final movie so I can't answer your question. I grabbed this pic from a Beatle Anthology Music Video boot DVD "that included a bunch of quick edit footage in the special features section.

that has been available before, no? Is it more complete/longer than what we've already seen?

It is the COMPLETE performance! It is certainly longer and more complete than I've seen (so far).
I would say until this comes out legitimately, this is the definitive version!

Same length from what I can tell. Also contains additional footage shot at the Cavern the same day.
