Hmm...I don't know. I've gotten other people asking about that too!

I'm really busy. Maybe I'll do something on Stu's bass if I get time. If I really wanted to, I could do Ringo's guitars as well.

Being in the publishing business, perhaps I'm oversensitive about this, but here goes. I admire your vigor in assembling this website and making the information available to the fans here. However, much (if not all) of your text is taken (copied, borrowed, whatever) from other sources, probably word for word. The photos, also, including catalog shots and photos from published books on significant guitars and basses. While this is frequently done on websites and chat groups (such as the Forums here), that doesn't make it "right." Not that I'm coming after you with a cease and desist order, but "publishing" this stuff without author's (or publisher's or photographer's) permission or even attribution to the sources is plain and simple copyright infringement. There's an old saying: "Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery" but, Nick, it could get you into serious trouble. If you're going to do research (and you'll find out how it should be done when you get into college), it's always best to read, learn, rewrite in your own words, and apply attributions or footnotes for your sources. Simply copying and "borrowing" other's work is not really fair.

Sorry if I sound preachy, but I think this important for you.

Just a minor detail but I believe the gold Grover's on John's Casino had "Pat Pend" stamped on them and the Close Up photo you show doesn't have it. You may want to add a footnote to the pic? Andy's book shows a good close up of the back of the tuners.

Well, welcome to the Monkey House, Nick...(I'm referring to our newly 'globalized' planet, not this Forum)...as Paul B.'s post above spells out, it's become a crazy, 'intellectual property'-ized world, and you have to be careful about a bunch of **** that nobody who's sixteen should have to be worried about. It's bad enough having to learn to drive...

I think what you're doing is fine, but it would certainly be finer if you credited the photos and verbage you post, to the best of your ability to do so.

And Paul...you DO sound preachy...but what the hell, preach when you need to. Lord knows I do...

Yeah, it comes with being a professional writer and editor. I know a bit about copyright (but I'm not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV), enough to advise folks to keep out of trouble. Permission and attribution is a lot less troublesome than having authors and publishers siccing lawyers on you.

Hmm...let me clarify.

I was a bit offended by your post, Paul. I didn't copy anything. I would never plagiarize. The website took me months. All of the text on my website was written by myself, and I didn't copy any of it from other sources. Not one word. The only time I've written something exactly is if it's a quote, and in that case, I do not feel the need to change it.

I'm not sure if people feel that I'm not capable of writing that, since I am only 16, but I assure you - I didn't steal from anyone. I apologize for not getting permission for all of those photos, because in truth, it would be impossible. There's no way I could've tracked down all the photographers. Like I said, if any of the owners of those pictures request that I take them down, I will gladly do so.

Oh, and one more thing. I did give attribution to all the sources. If you go to the "About" section, and click on credits, you'll see my source list.

Funny how you managed to copy many of our photos (along with their digital copyright watermarks) but I don't see our name on your credits page.

Nevertheless, you have mail with a simple solution to your problem, which is intended to encourage your work rather than discourage it.

Nice job Nick!

A little bit about Paul's Jazz Bass. I believe it is a '66, but that wasn't the only year for the oval tuners. My '65 has them, and I believe they can be seen on Jazz's through '68. '66 was the first year for binding on the neck and about mid way through the dot markers were switched to blocks.
