Distortion Pedal Recommendation?

Post by revolver »

I think there may have been a similar thread on this earlier. I'm looking for a pedal that does a good job at emulating an overdriven/ Marshall or similar tube amp.

I'm currently using a Marshall Guv'nor 2 into my Hiwatt Custom 50. It sounds a lot like that creamy JCM 900 distortion, but at times sounds sort of fake and not really smooth. I have a TS9 Tubescreamer as well, but am looking for something with a bit more Marshall crunch.

Besides recommending I trade my Hiwatt in for a Marshall JCM 900, does anyone have any recommendations for a good pedal?

for bass my favorite is the good old line 6 bass pod ... followed by the sans amp ... the marshall and tube screamer are better for guitar ... but you probably do play guitar ... so those two pedals should be good ...

For what it's worth, I've never found an overdrive pedal for bass that really works.
I can't remember the first one I bought anymore. Sans amp does nothing but add volume and some "punch." I now have the Ibanez one, and with the knobs turned all the way, it does give some distortion/overdrive.
I guess I have to continue on my quest for the "Jack2x sound." (Bruce and Casady)

You need small feet with that many pedals so close together!

Just judging from the pic you posted Paul it is apparently obvious that one can never have too many pedals. LOL

When they're all dialed in with fresh batteries, it's sheer heaven...

The last time was 1987. August, I think...

Unfortunatley, that looks a lot like my pedalboard(s) once did...

Only about 13 in this shot, sometimes it exceeded twenty!

My favorite distortions: My 1984 Whiteface Proco Rat and my Analogman-modded TS-9. Never tried the Menatone pedal but have heard great things about it.
