True or false?

Post by sowhat »

So... i've studied the threads here, and looks like there was no such topic before... sorry if i'm wrong...
As we all know, there are always many legends surrounding rock/pop stars... stories that may be true or not, stories you may believe or not...
Just some examples... a couple of such stories about the Beatles...
1. There was a rumor that they had to change planes in Sheremetyevo in late 60s and played (or planned to play) a little gig for Russian fans at the airport. Paul McCartney himself didn't deny it was a true story in his interview with a Russian journalist, albeit i felt his comment was a bit "tongue-in-cheek"...
2. Another one i've quoted somewhere before: one of the Beatles passed away in 1967 or so, and they found a guy who looked exactly like him... but he wasn't a real Beatle. So if you played "White album" backwards you could hear the name of the one who was gone... you won't believe how many Russian Beatle fans played "WA" backwards at the time!!!
Any others, guys?
PS: i wonder if the same myths about the Beatles existed in UK/US/Canada etc?
PPS: i mean 50s & 60s acts of course...

Yes #2 Paul is dead, was a big thing here in the 60's, people found many clues on the album covers and in the songs.
Never heard of #1.

Nice, Bob... here it was about John if i'm not mistaken... As far as #1 goes, the reference to it can be found on "Red Square DVD"...
Any other legends?
Another one i can remember off the top of my head is that Jim Morrison is alive in fact and lives in Altai... he just wanted to start a new life and move to Russia to live in peace... a bit too cynical perhaps, but very popular here...
C'mon guys... i'm sure there's lots of such legends around... and i kind of collect them...

Check this site for information on the Paul is dead hoax.

http://aboutthebeatles.com/paulisdeadclues.html

When this information came out in the 1960s it was really interesting how many clues there were.

Yeah, thanks a lot for the link, Jim! As some people say, "the more they announce you're dead, the longer you'll live"!
But... my actual intention on creating this thread was to collect some stories about the other bands. I mean, there's lots of legends surrounding the Beatles, and what about the Stones, the Kinks, etc?
(seems like i hear someone say "this can be endless", or is it just the wind that always blows in my head?)
Best regards,
SC.

Decades ago I'd heard that Jagger, standing poolside, had kicked Brian Jones (swimming) in the head, thus causing his drowning. That was the long standing rumor in these parts.

I actually have a tape of Russ Gibb's infamous radio show (recorded off of the radio, around that time that I got from a friend) where they broke down all of the clues. If I can find it, I will dub it off.
As you know, he is widely credited (At least around here...) for starting the rumour.

I've heard that same rumor about Brian Jones, Jerry. But then again, a lot of people think Zappa ate his own **** onstage (which he did not) and that Alice Cooper killed a chicken on stage, which was not true either. He threw it back into the crowd and the crowd did the rest.

...yep and Ozzy ate bats... Image
...and a certain band played 12-string on a certain single... (just to "tame down" Ozzy's effect)

Please don't tell
No no no
Don't say that I told you so
I just heard a rumour from a friend

I don't say
That it's true
I'll just leave that up to you
If you don't believe me I'll understand

Do you recall a girl that's been in nearly every song
This is what I heard
Of course, the story could be wrong

She's the one
I've been told
Now she's wearing a band of gold
Peggy Sue got married not long ago

"People say believe half of what you see, son
And none of what you hear.
I can't help bein' confused if it's true please tell me dear?
Do you plan to let me go for the other guy
that you knew before?
Oh, I heard it through the grapevine
Not much longer would you be mine
Oo I heard it through the grapevine
And I'm just about to lose my mind
Honey, honey yeah"

Are there Elvis sightings in Russia Sheena?

The Lord's Prayer was recorded and played back subliminally at super high speed at the end of a certain Cheap Trick single "The Dream Police".
True or false?
Not 60's, late 70's I believe.

Well... Elvis still lives here, too... somewhere around Altai or Karelia, according to different sources... Image Never met him, though... Image
