Please HELP me pick a new PA system!
Kent; they's the ones. They most likely use neodyminium drivers, which are very light, as well as they do cost more, the box is plastic and it is possible that the drivers are 4 ohm so that they can also keep the amp portion light also, they really do sound good and if you pair them with that mackie mixer, you'd be in great shape, sound and weight wise. $736 does not seem that expensive to me, but I don't know what the mackie's are worth each. Hercules make gtr stands, but they also have a crank up speaker stik, that I love using, no having to hike the speaker at 5' any more...good luck
Here's whats happened. Instead of investing in a whole new powered speaker PA system (like Mackie) we decided to stay in the powered amp mode and get a new mixer. We knew the old mixer had problems (especially with the effects) and we knew it was time. So we got the Yamaha EMX5000-12 which certainly gives us expandability if we want to start mic-ing drums and amps in the future:
We plugged in the old Yamaha Club IV 15" speakers and they sounded very good (but more bassy than we had been used to with the BOSE speakers). Clearly, getting a new mixer was a needed thing and we're very happy with this sucker.... it has pretty universal rave reviews on the web.
Right now, the plan is to continue to use the BOSE as high-mounted speakers to either side of the drummer (this means they also serve as monitors), and put the Yamaha Club IV's out front on either side. Hopefully this will be the best of all worlds.
