Some Other Guy

Post by oreca »

I got bored and decided to watch the performance I have of Some Other Guy on the Chronology DVD. So for no absolute reason, I captured some shots from it and these were the best ones. I touched up the pictures a bit to make them look as good as possible. There was a bit of yellow around the edges which I tried to fix as best as possible.

Enjoy!
P.S. to see them in order, start with the bottom of the list...

Cool stuff....they always looked so much more cramped up there to me in this vid than in photos taken...look at how Paul is holding the bass and it's almost like George has no room to move...that's not the impression I get in a lot (most) other shots.

when I visited the rebuilt cavern and stood on the stage, the first thought I had was "wow, this aint very big at all".

actually that was my second thought. My first thought was that the Liverpool twits who didn't protect it as a historical location and let the original Cavarn tore down for a parking lot should be keelhauled. .... aaaargh!

Yeah that's such a shame, I would've loved to be able to visit that place.

Where did they rebuild it? I forgot...

nope.... it was built on the same side but farther up Mathew Street (closer the main intersection). In the pix shown on this site, the original site is to the left of were it is now.

Kent,

You're right, only about half (or 75% according to some accounts) of the club occupies the original site; the other half is, indeed, further up Mathew Street.

Fall 1961, The Tower Ballroom, New Brighton

who is that in the upper left behind Ringo? Its not Paul or George as they are accounted for. Given the leathers, its either John or Pete.

Hard to tell, but if it is Pete it would be one of the only pix I've found with Ringo and Pete Best together in the same photo.

Thanks for those great photos Patrick, very cool. The original Cavern stage area had to be bigger than the one they've got now. A little wider but definitely higher. I've been on the new Cavern stage and it doesn't feel right. I know that they've got the 'tunnels' running in the opposite direction of the originals. An idiotic thing to knock the original down. Wouldn't you think somebody would have done their homework before they rebuilt it? I've heard that some of the original is left under the car park. Some say yes and some say no. I guess nobody would know until you started excavating. Give me permission and I'll be there with a shovel tomorrow.

Hi Larry... I was there too (for just a short visit) and I didn't feel that it was different at the time but your mention of the height is right-on I think. The height of rebuilt stage didn't seem as high as this pix shows.

Where did you hear about the tunnel thing? You'd think that they could have at least gotten that part correct. Image
