Playing slide on a Ric 12-string

Post by dean712 »

We just finished an extremely long day in the studio. My guitarist borrowed my 660/12 and layed down some slide guitar parts for one of the songs. He put just a little chorus on it, and it sounded fantastic. I remember a post here a while back about a couple of folks who've tried that, and I can now say that it is a nice sound.

Tomorrow we're using the 660/12 to do some jangly fills on a song I wrote. It's a great guitar, sounds great in the studio.

Slide on a Rick 12 is fantastic. I don't even own one yet, but one of the best things about playing a Rick 12 is playing songs that are usually 6 string songs, including those that use slide...

The 'My Sweet Lord' intro sounds nice on a 12, in my opinion.

I originally bought my Rick 12 to do jangly 12 string parts (which we are still going to do in our current studio work... got pushed off until tomorrow's studio date...), and also for songwriting and basic recording.

It is an awesome guitar, though, and in the preparation work for recording our CD, the guitar player in my band was working up slide parts for a country-fried song we had written with our drummer singing. He found that the Rick 12 gave him an ideal combination of great sound and also great resistance to the slide itself (I'm posting the second part third-person; I just use it for chords and riffs myself and haven't played slide, although I can vouch that it sounds fantastic).
All in all, I love the 660/12. Slide sounds awesome, as does most everything else.

Check out Jeff Buckley's "Last Goodbye", the intro, for a bit of slide on a 360/12. You can really hear the tone in live footage of him. What a cool sound! Since I got my 660/12 I haven't played slide on it yet, but i'll definitley do so later.

And i'd also like to add that I absolutley love my 660/12 as well.
