Looks stunning! Out of the RIC museum, perhaps? Interesting that they are displaying acoustics when you've got no hope of getting one in the forseeable future.

Nice to see the Aussie Maton brand represented and the giffen site giving them a little exposure.

If the Japanese wanted more acoustics they would get 'um. IMHO of course.

I'm just saying. It seems like RIC Japan gets all the cool stuff. Like for instance, a couple years ago they got some 4003's with checked binding. Why can't we get them? Over in the guitar forum, RIC Japan got special acoustics with the 60s headstock. Didn't know they made those. They had blueboy finish before we ever heard of it here. I'm sure there is more. Somebody back me up or set me straight. Image

I seem to remember John Hall saying that the sales of Ricks in Japan is extraordinarily high. It could be that Japan is a great test market for new items/finishes.

Asian markets are known for seeing all sorts of new fangled products (not limited to Ricks) before they ever hit the West.

A also recall JH saying that the Japanese distributors order early and big. To me that means that there's every chance they would be first cab off the rank most times and the volume ordered would possibly see them get many before the rest of the market got one. The old FIFO principle, which is fair enough!

More power to them if they are prepared to stick their neck out!!

If the Australian distributor had the balls to order for 'stock' rather than wait for a decent batch of dealer orders before acting, we'd be a much happier bunch down here. He wouldn't have 'stock' for very long - the dealers would take it all off his hands in a flash!! Alas, to him, Rickenbacker is only a trinket in a jewel box otherwise filled with high turnover 'mainstream' gear that appeals to the masses.

End of Aussie rant.... carry on, chaps!!

I'm confused. I thought Rickenbacker wasn't taking orders on acoustics. If that's so, why would they display them at NAMM?

Didn't the Japanese get the 4003 with checkered binding because a Japanese distributor agreed to purchase/sell a certain number of them? It seems to me that RIC isn't any kinder to the Japanese than they are to RIC.

I believe there was some talk in this forum a while back about trying to special order a run of 4001v68 basses if we could get enough forumites to commit and agree on a distributor.
