Pretty Convincing 360/12 copy on CL

Upon first glance I could not tell this was a fake. Proportionally it's off a bit but anyone who is not a Rick aficionado would be hard pressed to tell it's a knock-off.

Actually not such a good knock-off. Besides the proportions being too fat, the radius along the top edge is far too sharp, being closer to the small radius on the 330. The headstock is also pretty badly done.

Now you know why Ric has such a strict TRC policy. That piece of **** should not be wearing a Ric TRC. IMO

come on Mr Bryan! You knew it was a fake immediately, just like we all did. Admit it. This isn't the Rumbush we all know and love otherwise...

Oh dear......nothing you can say really!
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.

Well I did have to do a double-take. I didn't read the description and at first thought it was the genuine article - it's hard when you have FWMOP inlays staring you in the face & that's all I saw initially. Then I said, "Er...wait a minute..."

No that's OK, don't be regretful. I needed a good laugh today and that pic provided me with one.

That was nothing compared to some of the utterly pathetic copies I've seen. If you liked that you'd find some other ones a real hoot. I thought that was a reasonably good attempt. Mind you I'm partial to Circles' solution. As noted, for the uninitiated it may appear to be the real deal.

I have seen some very poor copies also but at least the vast majority of them did not sport real Ric TRCs. The other Tokai copies that I have seen say "Rockinbetter" on them.

At the risk of getting booted from this group (or meeting with a road roller) that was my post on CL. I stand by everything I said in the text and I never tried to pass it off as real. The TRC was on it when I bought it and I think it's a great guitar for what it is.
As far as liking it better than my real one, I think it's the toasters that put it over the top there. It doesn't have the clarity, sustain or craftsmanship of the real thing, but it has a very lively sound and tons of soul. The real one seems a bit overbuilt/overvarnished by comparison. Neither of them compare in any way to the 360/12v64 I just bought though!
So there you have it, a true confession. I noticed that CL has taken it down, so if you want to see the pics, let me know... just don't offer to buy it cuz it's already sold! (I still have the real one though.)
A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Welcome to the forum Chris. We don't go much for Ric copies around here as you've noticed.

Years ago, Tokai used to make some nice guitars albeit they too are copies of Fender and Gibson models. Perhaps yours (assuming it was a Tokai) played quite well but having said that, it is not and will never be as good as a Ric though. IMO

Have fun on the forum. There are a lot of very knowledgeable folks here.

Chris... now i really feel sorry for mentioning the road roller... not unusual for someone who often comes down too hard on things that look strange to her eyes. I do believe this one has a nice sound, it's just the shape that seemed strange to me (perhaps i'm way too conservative).
Welcome to the forum and have a great time here! (and don't take it too close if i say something stupid again Image)
