4005 cap mod?
Moderators: rickenbrother, ajish4
OK....I did the mod yesterday (thanks Kevin) and the difference was MAJOR!! I took her out last night to gig with for the first time and after a few tweeks to the amplifier I was having a great time playing my 4005...I even enjoyed playing with the 5th knob a bit and got a much larger variety of tones and sounds than was ever possible before. Now that I've gotten the electronics in order and I'm slowly working on the neck issue (medium bow with high action when I got it vs. slight bow with medium action now)I'm really starting to like this baby. I'm still pretty wary about taking it to gigs because of it's value but it's nice to see her coming back to life!!
Actually, the idea came from another forum member, so I can't take credit, but it DOES work well, doesn't it!
When I first plugged in my 4080 I thought "this is nice"' After the cap was bypassed it was:"Holy C**p! PUNCHY!"
To go back (why would you want to?) to pure stock is simple, though.
Glad to help

Francesco, YES, it seems to have...whether it's the actual volume or just the added bass I can't really say, but, before it sounded like a full toaster on the neck pup and a plink/plunk pickup on the bridge...very thin with mostly highs and midrange...similar to the bridge pup on the Gibson EB2-D's and EB3's...Now it sounds like a real pickup with the full range of tones...meaning mostly, A LOT MORE BASS!!
I'm very pleased...dm
